Some of the Favre's of Aubonne actually seem to have spent more time in Morges. Some are known as Faber or Fabri in the early records, and many are notaries. The exact relationships are obscure. It is possible that some of the Favres of this region descend from the notary Jaques de Montricher alias Fabri, who owned the property at 71 Grand Rue in Morges, 1460. Benjamin may be connected with a Reymond Favre who resided at Rolle, and who also married a Valier at about the same time.
Terriers of Aubonne reveal that this Benjamin was the son of David, and nephew of Bernard. Bernard and David were sons of Estienne Favre of Gimel, bourgeois of Aubonne.

He made a "reconnaissance" for his brother Michel (a notary, Curial de Rolle) and the children of his late brother David Favre 10 feb 1612 (ACV FH 173 fol. 154). He is apparently the same Bernard "Faber" of Aubonne whose wife Sara Tripod was a sponsor at the baptism of Sara, daughter of Egrège "Anthoine" Mayor and his wife Esther Tripod of Mollens, 12 apr 1607. The reference to "Anthoine" is evidently an error, as the husband of Esther Tripod was Estienne, son of Antoine, and, as far as we can discern, the notary Antoine Mayor was already dead. Further, the reference to Bernard Favre may be incorrect as well, for the husband of Sara Tripod seems to be Benoit Favre in other records.
The identity of the (first?) wife of Bernard Favre is certain, since he petitioned the local court to accept the verbal testament of his late wife Germande Duport in 1597, following her death from the plague. However, see below, it is possible that this record pertains to the other Bernard!
Another Bernard Favre of Aubonne, dit Charmoisy, had a brother Claude. They were the sons of Aymé Favre of Charmusy or Charmoisy sus Thonon. Relationships in this family are given in a reconnaissance in the terrier ACV FH 153, fol. 64v, dated 17 mar 1564. The additional alias Mery (sometimes Emery?) also seems to apply to the family from Charmoisy.

His parentage is given in a "reconnaissance" in the terrier ACV Fh 211 (fol.. 963, 14 jul 1569), for "Claude filz de Jaques de Geneve aultrement Favre natifz de Gimel à present residant à Montherod". That reconnaissance also mentions that he had obtained some of his property by a partage with his brother Discret Estienne Favre, including several parcels at Saubraz that had been purchased by their father from the Tienturier family of Saubraz.

Appears at a baptism in Gimel, 1582, in place of his father, Estienne Favre, curial of Aubonne. He is "Discret David Favre de Rolle" when he appears 01 oct 1600 in a transaction relating to his unnamed brothers and the estate of their father "Egrège Estienne Favre notayre et bourgeois d'Aulbonne" (Jean Barral, notary at Morges).
He was dead by 13 jan 1616 when his widow Pernette Tripod made a "reconnaissance" for property at St. Livres en la Biolleta (ACV Fh 223 fol. 52v) that had previously been recognized in 1571 by the governors of St. Livres and about the same time rented to Pernette, wife or widow of Eg. Nycolas Tripod. The property was next in possession of Eg. Gabriel Tripod, son of Nicolas and Pernette. The wording of the reconnaissance is difficult to follow and probably contains at least one significant error. It seems most likely, however, that Pernette Tripod, wife of David Favre, was the daughter of the same Nycolas Tripod and his wife Pernette, since at one point the reconnaissance describes an adjacent property, "le pré dudict Tripod soit de Pernette sa mere à present possedé par elle mesme devers le vent". That is, the current possessor of this property, in 1616, was "the said Tripod", and was female ("à present possedé par elle mesme"), and her mother was called Pernette.
David was still alive about 1606 (possibly 19 jan 1607) when he and his brothers Michel and Bernard made a reconnaissance (ACV Fh 171 fol. 428).

"Paraphe" or notarial signature of Estienne Favre, 1577
(ACV Fh 161, Chapelles d'Aubonne)
Entries in the church register at Gimel specify Estienne Favre's association with Gimel. He served as a Commissaire (designation of a notary who compiles "terriers" or "reconnaissances" of land ownership), and in the course of these duties he is described repeatedly as the son of Jaques Favre of Gimel.
The earliest mention of his death that has come to our attention is a transaction recorded by Claude Mayor, notary at Ballens, dated 24 feb 1600, in which a parcel of land at Gimel "prez Monthoux" is noted as being adjacent to property of the heirs of the late Estienne Favre.
He is credited with a number of terriers, but these are in different hands, with different spellings, organization, syntax, etc. It is possible, however, that he really was responsible for most of these, but employed a number of clerks to prepare the documents. The terrier that appears to give the most information about him, and which is also credited to him in spite of the absence of any evidence beyond the small label glued at a later date to the spine of the volume, is identified as ACV Fh 34. This terrier enumerates an enormous number of properties at Gimel for which Estienne and his brother François owed annual "censes", "pensions", etc. to the Baron of Aubonne, and in the course of which many relationships are revealed.
Documents of Jean Barral, notary at Morges, note at least one transaction dated 01 oct 1600 between Discret David Favre of Rolle acting for himself as well as his brothers (not named), heirs of the late Ege. Estienne Favre, notary and bourgeois of Aubonne, to Ege. Gabriel Tripod. The realization that Estienne's second wife was the widow of the elder Gabriel Tripod makes this transaction especially intriguing. Further, David Favre seems to have married to a Pernette Tripod. Perhaps this was a double wedding, where a widow and her daughter married a widowed father and his son.
The terrier Fh 205 is described in the inventories of the ACV as the work of Pierre and Gabriel Tripod, brothers, commissaires, and of Pierre and Etienne Favre, from Gimel, notaries. But who was this Pierre Favre? The terrier dates from 1558. It is possible that Pierre was another brother who died soon after, leaving no heirs. So far, no other mention of this Pierre has been found, but it would be logical to look for him in the terriers of the districts of Aubonne and Morges about this time.

(conceivably the name says Fabvre!).
