Apparently the Châtelain de Crissier in 1701 at the time of his marriage, from which we deduce that his birthdate is probably prior to 1680. He is probably the notary Isaac Vullyamoz often cited from that time until about 1760, but the registers ascribed to this notary in the FHL catalogue are implausible, 1669-1760. The inclusive dates given by an earlier inventory of the ACV are 1693-1746 (ACV DG 287). If this is correct, the death record at Lausanne for "Mr. Vullyamoz, curial de Prilly" 02 feb 1746 might be his.
There are two references to his presumed father, Jean Pierre Vullyamoz, at Crissier, once on the occasion of a baptism in 1682 at which the mother is Estienne Mathey, the other being Isaac's marriage in 1701. There is a baptism at Lausanne for an Isaac son of Egrège Samuel Vullyamoz and Estiennaz Mathey, 29 aug 1674. The coincidence of the mother's name seems unlikely, and we have come to believe that the name of the father is incorrectly recorded — it should have been Jean Pierre!
He also held the titles of Curial de Crissier and Curial de Prilly.

His notarial registers survive for 1721-1728 (ACV DG 284). His baptism has not been located. His parentage seems to be established by the testament of his cousin Jean André Samuel Vullyamoz, prepared when the latter was about to leave Lausanne to travel in France. Jean André Samuel named as his residual heir his cousin Abraham Vullyamoz, then located in Paris, son of the Châtelain Isaac André Vullyamoz. Isaac André, therefore, should be a brother of the father of Jean André Samuel, and this selection would make sense if Abraham were the logical next of kin, the eldest of his cousins.

Secondary sources name the surviving son of Jean Vullyamoz as either Michel or Israel, and make him custodian of his father's notarial registers. Registers attributed to "Jean Israel Vullyamoz" start where his father's leave off (ACV DG 292, inclusive dates 1601-1652), so this seems reasonable. We are probably missing the baptisms of many of his children, and must suppose that they were baptised in another parish. With his wife, he appears at a baptism in Lausanne, 1634.

He purchased citizenship at Lausanne 20 mar 1553, "Jean du Pont alias Vullyamoz." His occupation on that occasion was given as cordonnier. He is also believed to be the author of the "Chronique de Lausanne" whose author signed himself "Jan Wulliamoz." He died before 1588, by which date his "heirs" owned property at Prilly, lieu-dit Es Croses (ACV DG 283, 9).
There have been a number of attempts to prove his descent from the noble family de Pont-en-Ogoz, most notably by Françoise Louise Marianne Burnand, wife of Jean Isaac Vullyamoz. By 1794, her efforts led to the amendation of some of the baptismal records at Lausanne, and eventually her son was created Baron de Pont-Wullyamoz. However, the evidence for the generations before 1600 is today in some disarray, and there are a number of different versions in circulation.
Catherine Santschi ("La chronique lausannoise de Jean Vullyamoz," Revue historique vaudoise [1970], pp. 15-42) has presented the most carefully documented account to date. The first known citation of Jean du Pont alias Vullyamoz dates from 1539, when he instigated legal action between the parish of St. Saphorin and Denys Paschoud of Epesses (ACV DG 13/2, 3). A memoire by an 18th Century genealogist, cited by René Burnand in his Histoire de la dame en rose: Madame de Pont-Vullyamoz, Vaudoise émigrée (Lausanne, 1954), give Jean's parentage as a notary Jean du Pont and Claudaz Chevalley. Santschi points out that there is no Jean du Pont on the 1550 tax list of Their Excellencies of Bern for that area (ACV BP 13, 82), suggesting that Jean the father had died and that the son had already left the area. Thus, he had probably lived in Lausanne for several years before he acquired citizenship.
Santschi notes that Jean du Pont alias Vullyamoz left three sons, Jean and Abraham, both notaries, and Philippe. The son Jean, banneret by 1593 and cited at least once as Vullyamoz du Pont, was survived by one son, either Michel or Israel, custodian of his father's notarial registers, who himself had two sons, both of whom died without issue. (Since Jean the son is apparently the one who married Georgeaz de l'Harpe and baptised a number of children as late as 1593, this statement will require further research.) It is from Abraham and Philippe that the numerous later representatives of his family derive. Santschi bases this account on the 1706 list of the Bourgeoisie of Lausanne (AVL D 442, 305v) as well as the genealogical memoire mentioned above, dated 1795, and preserved at the Archives Cantonales (ACV P Vullyamoz). The latter may be presumed to be based on the research of La Dame en Rose herself, Françoise Louise Marianne Burnand, whose preoccupation at that time was to secure recognition of her husband's noble roots, so that she could enroll her son in a prestigious school in Vienna. She succeeded, though she died before her son achieved his eventual fame and fortune.

His notarial registers survive, 1579-1600 (FHL microfilm 907096, ACV 288). From this, we estimate his birthdate as 1554 or earlier, since a notary would probably have reached the age of majority when he began his career. He is believed to have been survived only by one son (Israel, though some sources say possibly Michel), who was custodian of his notarial registers, and who himself had two sons who died without issue. There were serious epidemics in the early 1600's, so this scenario seems very plausible.
