The origin of the Vacherand family in Maringoz is given for Pierre Vacherand le jeune (son of the present Pierre) in the terrier ACV Fh 38, fol. 43. While it seems certain that Pernette, daughter of Pierre the elder, was from his marriage to Jenette DuBugnion, since Pernette's descendants the Favre brothers were heirs of Jenette, it seems equally likely that the sons Pierre le jeune and probably also Jean Vacherand might have been from a prior marriage, born before the elder Pierre Vacherand settled at Gimel and there married Jenette.
One child of Pierre Vacherand the elder, although there is no way to know which one, was born in April or May of 1499. We know this because on 14 may 1499, Petrus Vacherand made a reconnaissance in the name of his wife, who was unavailable because she had recently given birth (ACV Fj 70, fol. 310v, "Johanneta filia quondam Nicolleti filii quondam Petri Jannyn alias dou Bugnyon uxor Petri dicti Vacheran fabri de Gimel seu pocius dictus Petrus conjunctorio nomine dicte eius uxoris nunc in puerperio existentis constitutus personaliter...").
Is Pierre Vacherand the younger the son of Pierre Vacherand the elder? The evidence so far is inconclusive but suggestive.
If his wife was not actually Pernon Pilliod, or perhaps even if she was, Pierre also seems to have married Jaquemaz daughter of Claude Perier autrement Humbert of Gimel (ACV Fi 113, fol. 300 ff, 30 jul 1624). The surname is also given as Piro alias Humbert in Fh 16 (fol. 488, including the name of the mother of Jaquemaz, Peroneta daughter of Glaudius son of Jaquetus du Bugnyon). However, the same couple is found in Fh 17, fol. 1 (also a copy of the same reconnaissance in Fh 18), dated 15 dec 1552, where the wife Jaqueme is now the daughter of Claude du Bugnyon aultrement Humbert. It seems likely that Piro, Humbert, Perier, and du Bugnyon all refer to the same family, descendants of a Humbert du Bugnyon. However, it is also possible that the du Bugnyon name was applied to her father, Claude Humbert, Piro, or Perier as a result of his marriage to Peroneta du Bugnyon, especially if she happened to be the only heir of Claudius son of Jaquetus du Bugnyon. It may be possible to untangle this puzzle from a close reading of the terriers. In fact, we found the same parcel in the terrier Fh 9, fol. 112v, held by Claudius Humbert alias de Piro habitator de Gimel et Peroneta eius uxor filia quondam Janini douz Bugnyon dicti loci de Gimel, as part of the noble fief of Peroneta widow of Claudius de la Porta, subject to the Seigneur of Aubonne, dated 01 dec 1507. (Note, however, that the parentage of Peroneta du Bugnyon differs in these sources!)
The terrier Fh 38 contains a reconnaissance of Jean fils de feu Claude du Bugnion aultrement Girard de Gymel et de Pernon sa femme relicte en premieres nopces de Pierre Vacherand le Jeune de Maringoz au pais de Foucignier fillie de feu Jean Pilliod dudict Gymel. dated 25 feb 1583 (fol. 43). From this we learn that Pernon Pilliod must have been the second wife of Pierre Vacherand le jeune, because she survived him, and that she next married Jean fils de feu Claude du Bugnion alias Girard.
The copy of the reconnaissance of 15 dec 1552 in Fh 18 also specifies in the margin that Pierre Vacherand the younger and his wife Jaqueme died without children (from that marriage). The import of this undated notation is that the property described in Fh 18, consisting of one pose, lieu-dit En Mugnant, belonged to Jaquemaz, presumably as part of her dowry, and it would presumably have reverted to her family upon her death without children.
Adding to the difficulties of this family, there is a reconnaissance dated 04 dec 1561 (ACV Fh 75, view numbered 13 of the rouleau) for Pierre Vacherand le vieulx and his wife. Whether this man is the present Pierre Vacherand or his father, his wife at this time does not match the known spouses for either of them, and she has a peculiar story of her own: She is identified as Jenon Vouchi, (possibly illegitimate?) daughter of the late Jaques Vouchi "le lirollaz" and Jaqueme, daughter of the late Claude Perrier and Pernette daughter of the late Claude son of the the late Jaquet du Bugnon of Gimel. It is also implied, although not stated directly, that this Jaquet du Bugnon descends from the original Janyn du Bugnion, founder of the dit Jannin branch of the family, from which the general terms of the abergement apparently derive. Much more analysis will be required before a solid genealogy can be proposed for this family.

Birthdate estimated from first mention in notarial records (1584). As of 1583, he is noted at 55 Rue Louis de Savoie in Morges (cadastral data, from internet site). It is possible that the name of his wife has been misread, or else that he married again. His wife Gasparde appears at a baptism in Gimel 25 sep 1603. He is noted as Chatellain d'Allemand in 1610. Records of his estate mention two heirs, his daughter Antheine and his son Imbert, so he was probably not the father of Jeanne Valier who married Benjamin Favre.
His marriage contract was recorded 23 jan 1586 by Jean Barral, notary at Morges (FHL microfilm #0896233). It gives the parentage of both bride and groom, and notes presence of her brother the notary Michel DuTruict.
He made a "reconnaissance" for property at Aubonne 24 apr 1621, at which point he was Châtelain d'Allamand.
A reconnaissance by his heirs (ACV Fh 176bis, fol. 928v, 13 nov 1633) is incomplete, lacking the complete description of the heirs. It names as the first heir his son Imbert, and, second, an unnamed daughter who was the wife of Benjamin Bégoz. Later in the document, there is a mention of "partages faictz entre iceulx Valier frere et soeur", thus strongly implying that there were only two heirs.
