The terrier ACV Fh 17 (fol. 15, 12 dec 1554) gives his father as Pierre de Genève dit Billiard, and his grandfather as Louis de Genève. In spite of the fact that some of his property was adjacent to that of Jaques de Genève dit Favre, no relationship is stated. They appear to be sons of the same father, but perhaps of different mothers. Anthoine and Jaques do not seem to have owned property jointly (at least, not any property subject to the de la Porte family, for whom the terrier Fh 17 was compiled). The earliest citation we have found for Anthonius is in the terrier or quernet Fi 55, nominally dated in 1543, but the information in it appears to predate the imposition of the Reformation in the Pays de Vaud by Their Excellencies of Bern in 1536 (for example, the priest and vicar at Féchy Michael Roberti is still so described in this terrier, even though he was certainly dismissed from this post in 1536).
The terrier Fh 38 (fol. 56, 01 apr 1583) shows that Anthoine had died and that at least some of his property was now in the hands of his son, Egrège Jean Billiard, notary, resident at Rolle.
Contradicting this information, or else implying additional complications, a reconnaissance for Egrège Jean Billiard in the terrier Fh 160, for property at Gimel subject to the Château d'Aubonne, claims that his father Anthoine was the brother of Louis Billiard (=de Genève) rather than his grandson (fol. 46, dated 08 feb 1575). This document gives Antoine two more sons, Claude and Thivent Billiard (all presumably known interchangeably as de Genève).
The terrier Fh 38 also enumerates property held by "Jacques, Perrod, Discret Ameyd, Jeanton, (et Jean — but the text seems confused here, and this Jean does not appear in another version from the same period) filz de feu Françoys Billiard autrement de Geneve de Gimel" (also Fh 35, p. 560v). Many of the properties are adjacent to those of Jean Billiard, son of Antoine. François might be another son of Antoine, or they might belong to the next generation. Or, François might be a cousin of Anthoine who survived at least until 1550 (Fg 70, fol. 405v).
In light of the discovery that there were two Pierre's in the 1520's, "senior" and "junior", it is also possible that Anthoine was the son of Pierre "senior" (although no evidence that he had any heirs has been discovered), and that Jaques (who inherited from the Vacherand family) was the son of Pierre "junior".
The situation described in Fh 38 and elsewhere implies that two groups of Billiard heirs jointly held equal shares of various properties about 1583. The two groups were represented by Discret Jean Billiard (apparently the son of the present Anthoine; his two brothers Claude and Thivent seem not to be mentioned after the document of 1575) and Jaques Billiard (son of François). Ideally, Jean and François should be related in such a way that their inheritance is logically separate from that of Estienne and his brother François.
One way such a division could have come about would be if two of the descendants of Louis de Genève took their inheritances separately, in the form of a "partage" or "division": First, Claude Billiard dit de Genève, who turns up in Montherod, would need to have taken his share of his parents' estate. Then, Jaques "Favre", son of Pierre de Genève (Billiard) junior, whose wife brought him the property of the Vacherand family, would need to take his share of Pierre junior's estate. Pierre senior apparently had no heirs, and so such an arrangement would have left the remaining estate of Louis Billiard held jointly by François, the only remaining heir of Jean, and Jean, the only remaining heir of Pierre junior. Upon the death of François, his sons Jaques, Perrod, Aimé, and Jeanton would thus end up holding various properties jointly with their second cousin, the notary Jean Billiard.
As no other scenario seems so straightforward, and since other arrangements would most likely have resulted in other types of shared tenancy of various properties that would have been mentioned in the terriers, we show these brothers as the sons of the François who was the son of Jean, son of the original Louis, but with the understanding that the evidence is weak and indirect.

A "reconnaissance" dated 20 apr 1568 (ACV Fh 211, fol. 366) was made by Christophle and his brothers for various properties at Féchy, including two parcels that had previously been in the hands of Pierre and Jean, sons of Louis de Genève alias Billiard of Gimel, and then sold in 1552 by Anthoine, grandson of Louis, to Pierre de Genève, father of Christophle. The text refers to a previous reconnaissance in 1507, recorded by Jean Brasier, possibly in Fh 9, concerning the "noble fiefs" subject to the Baron of Aubonne, but the information given there (see fol. 180v ff) does not match with Fh 211. It may be that there was another terrier by Jean Brasier, for the "particuliers" who were subject to the Baron, now lost. Prior to the reconnaissance recorded by Jean Brasier, ACV Fh 211 further states that the next earlier reconnaissance was by Jean son of Mermet Gentil alias Morel (this was probably in a terrier of Jean Vulliet, now lost, from about 1480), and before that by François Morel.
Other properties "recognized" in 1568 by Christophle and his brothers were previously recognized by his grandfather Collet de Genève son of the late Collet de Genève alias Morel (circa 1507, terrier of Jean Brassier), and before that (terrier of Jean Vulliet) by the same Jean son of Mermet Gentil alias Morel. The two chains of ownership thus diverge after about 1480, suggesting that both the elder Collet (=Nicollet) de Genève and Louis de Genève were relatives or possibly descendants of the same Jean son of Mermet Gentil alias Morel.
The two lineages turn out to meet in the person of Franciscus Morel and his wife Leona, through their two daughters: Beatrix or Beatricia, who married Vulliermus Reymond, apparently the same Vulliermus who was the father of Ludovicus de Gebennis, and Peroneta, who married Mermetus Gentil alias Pictet.

He is cited as an owner of property at Bière as early as 1567 (Claude Mayor, notary, ACV DB 26/1 fol. 6v, 16 dec 1567). Apparently the same man, son of Jaques de Geneve, who had married Thievennaz daughter of the late Claude Monod, made a settlement with Jaques Monod 27 nov 1570 (Claude Mayor, notary, ACV DB 26/1 fol. 148v) regarding a donation made by Jaques Monod in connection with their marriage contract. If these are indeed the same person, then Thievennaz must have died soon after the marriage; there seems to have been an epidemic in the Pays de Vaud about that time. It would seem that Claude Monod was another victim of the same epidemic. His widow Pernon married Jaques de Geneve, father of Christophle and probably a recent widower, but Jaques died soon after, and Pernon next married Bastian de la Pierraz.
The marriage record we believe refers to Christophle DeGeneve and Thievennaz Monod is not completely legible. It follows immediately the record of the marriage of Jaques son of the late Pierre de Geneve de Bière to Pernon "relaissée de feu Claude Monod de Ballens", and in the absence of a date, we assume that the date of this preceding marriage applies here as well. What we can read of it is the name Christophe, and then "Thyvenne fille de ... Claude (?) Monod de Ballens".
His next marriage, to Claudaz Mayor, is apparently the one dated 12 jun 1569, where we find Christophle de Geneve marrying Claude widow of François Bollié of Bière. However, there is some evidence that there were two men called Christophle de Geneve about that time, one the son of Jaques, the other the son of Jean. Among other evidence, a Christophle de Geneve was one of the witnesses to the settlement of 27 nov 1570 cited above, to which Christophle de Geneve son of Jaques was a party.

It seems reasonable to assume that all of the de Genève families with the alias Billiard must share a common origin, in the person of Louis de Genève who married the daughter and only heir of Pierre Billiard of Gimel about 1470 or earlier. But what is the origin of the Billiard families at Montherod, who all seem to have this same combination of family names? The terrier ACV Fh 211, circa 1567 for the Château d'Aubonne, reveals that there were two men called Claude de Genève whose descendants used the name Billiard. The eldest was already dead by 20 dec 1567 (Fh 211 fol. 30v), as was his son the notary Guillaume Billiard. But (fol. 963), another Claude de Genève, this one "aultrement Favre", brother of the notary Etienne Favre, was also living at Montherod circa 1567.
For the moment, the simplest solution appears to be that the elder Claude de Genève must have been another son of Louis. The alias Billiard strongly suggests, also, that all of the de Genève alias Billiard descendants are also children of Anthoine Billiard, the only wife of Louis de Genève known with certainty, and the only known child and heir of Pierre Billiard of Gimel.
Are there any earlier references to the elder Claude that would help establish the dates, as a way of checking whether the proposed genealogy is possible? We found essentially the same group of reconnaissant families in Fh 9, fol. 127, part of a reconnaissance by Noble Petrus de Lavigny for his noble fief subject to the Seigneurie of Aubonnne, dated 29 oct 1507. At that time, Bernarda de Sollerio and her husband Claudius de Gebennis alias Billiard were both alive. Additionally, the same page in Fh 9 notes that the property in question had been leased to Martinus Escuellier (or Escuallier — an ancestor of Bernarda) and others in 1467.
