Problem: What is the name of Estienne's father? Is the Françoise de Villette mentioned in a document of Claude Vuargne, notary at Morges, in 1630, actually the mother of Estienne, and did this Estienne have a brother Anthoine? The document seems to say so, though this does not seem consistent with other information. It may be a question of a different Estienne.
The nuncupative testament of the present Estienne Mayor was recorded 26 mar 1618 by Estienne Blondel, notary of Rolle (apparently a resident of Mont-le-Grand). The testament reveals that Eg. Estienne Mayor, notary of Mollens and bourgeois of Aubonne, died about six weeks ago (thus about 12 feb 1618), but left no written will because no notary was available when he died. Nevertheless, his wishes were written down by Joseph Tollot before witnesses Jacob Cuvit, François Masson, and others. He left dowries for his two daughters, bequests to his son George and his two brothers, to his nephew Jean Jaques Mayor, to his nephew François Morellon, and to (his step-daughter) Jeanne du Meurier after the decease of her mother. His widow Esther Tripod was represented by her brother Bartholomé Tripod of Aubonne.
To the extent that Estienne can be shown to be related to the Mayors of Mollens and Ballens, the citizenship of the latter in Aubonne can be proved. The marriage contract of 1599 says he is "of Mollens" and "bourgeois d'Aubonne", and does not explicitly name relatives. The closest thing we have to evidence in this instance is a document relating to Claudine Mayor, daughter of Jaques Mayor dit Mathey of Mollens, indicating that she has a brother Estienne. As there do not seem to be any other Estienne Mayors in Mollens at that time who might be notaries, we have tentatively identified the notary with the brother of Claudine. However, this assumption may yet be proved wrong.
Another useful piece of evidence, recorded 13 mar 1604 by André Morzier, notary at Rolle, involves a sale by David son of the late Claude Mayor to his cousin Estienne Mayor, notary of Mollens. This fits with the idea that Jaques dit Mathey is the father of Estienne, as Jaques did have a brother Claude who died about 1585, leaving a son David (b. 1584).
Further evidence that places Estienne as a son of Jaques Mayor dit Mathey is a transaction dated 06 jun 1601 (ACV DB 26, Claude Mayor, notary) involving Estienne Mayor and François Coppoz. The mother of François Coppoz was the late Claudaz, who had also been the wife of the late Jaques Mayor, father of Estienne. This is clearly Claudaz Crestin, whose several marriages are mentioned in a number of other documents.
This is also the Estienne Mayor who was the compiler (or "commissaire") of a terrier for Mollens (ACV Fg 125), about 1603-1608. The "reconnaissances" in this terrier include a very long one in which he describes his own property. He describes himself as a grandson of Claude Mayor dit Mathey. Some of his property is shared with other members of the Mayor dit Mathey family, confirming the relationships already deduced.

Was he the Benedict Mayor who was bourgeois and officier ballivale of Aubonne in 1730? That Benedict was the father of Marie, who married David, son of Pierre Guignard, 14 feb 1739 (Augustin Dessel, notary) — and in fact, the same Benedict is found married to Jeanne Marie Deillens widow of the banderet Blanchet of Lutry 10 apr 1733, mentioning an obligation of 22 apr 1670 against his father Pierre Mayor, and by 16 jul 1735 he has married Elizabeth Jaccard. Apparently the same Benedict was a party to a partage for the estate of the late Pierre Mayor and his wife Gabrielle Neyrod 28 feb 1724, the other parties apparently his sisters Jaqueline (wife of Henry Cuzin), Estiennaz, Françoise, and Pernette (wife of Jean Grangeron (?). Since none of the names can be matched with the relatives of the present Estienne Benedict, the one at Aubonne appears to be a different person of unknown affiliation.
The testaments of Estienne Benedict Mayor and his wife Jeanne Peronne Muret were recorded by Jean Pierre Monod, notary, in 1726 and 1727. They mention daughters Louise Gabrielle and Gabrielle Susanne (wife of Jean Jaques Morel of Montricher).
