On 23 dec 1622 he acknowledged property that had come from a partage with his brother Louis, son of the late Jaques who was a son of the late Jean Convers of Ballens (ACV FH 175 fol. 11v).

Possibly he is sometimes noted as Jaques Convers in the registers at Ballens. For example, there is a marriage at Aubonne 06 jan 1633, Isaac son of the late Jacob Convers to Jeanne son of the late Jean Cristin of Bognieu (Bougneux), but the presumed baptism of Isaac calls his father Jaques. However, there is also a baptism 23 jun 1583 for Jean son of Jacob Convers, and another for Jean François son of Jaques Convers less than six months later, 01 jan 1584, from which we infer that at least one Jacob and at least one Jaques were heads of families at that time.
The "authentic" Jacob Convers is revealed by the terrier of 1622 (ACV FH 175) to be the son of Pierre, son of Jean. By 1622, Jacob had sons Pierre and David.
His marriage, also giving the name of his father as Pierre, was recorded 26 nov 1581 by Claude Mayor, notary at Ballens (ACV DB 26/3 fol. 71, also in the corresponding minutaire DB 26/5 fol. 29). The corresponding church record appears to be the one at the top of page 83 of the first surviving register for the parish of Bière, for which the date, the name of the groom, and the given name of the bride are illegible. The parts of the record that are still legible say that the groom was the son of Pierre, and that the bride was a daughter of the late Légier Bichet of Bière. The dates of the marriages that precede and follow this record are 25 mar 1581 and 28 dec 1581. There may originally have been another folio preceding the one numbers as pages 83-84, because the marriages on page 83 are numbered sequentially beginning with 8. The missing marriages would fill the gap between March and December of 1581. If the numbering began at 1 on the page that originally preceded 83, it was not at the beginning of a year, so it may be that there was a change of pastor at that time, and he began numbering the marriages sequentially, as the next minister did when he arrived in the middle of 1584 (Louis Cailletain). The identity of the pastor who arrived in 1581 is found in the part of the same register used for baptisms (page 34)—he was Benoict Chatelard, and his first baptism, numbered 1, was recorded 24 sep 1581 at Bière.

She made a "reconnaissance" 24 dec 1622 (ACV Fh 175 fol. 171) as the widow of the late Discret Isaac Monod of Ballens, in which the names of both of her parents are given. She made another reconnaissance the same day (ACV Fh 175 fol. 165) on behalf of her children by her late husband: Louis, Isaac, and Jeanne. A terrier compiled in 1678 (Fg 159) shows much of the property that she had recognized in 1622 now in the hands of Eg. Jean Mayor, Lieutenant de Mollens, and at some point a few years later than 1678, in the hands of his son Gaspard Mayor, or else his other son Pierre Mayor, operateur. This strongly suggests that the Jeanne Monod who married Eg. Jean Mayor was the daughter of Isaac Monod and Jaquemaz Convers, rather than the daughter of Gabriel Monod and Isabeau Jantelin, as we had concluded from very indirect evidence in other records.

This is probably not the "Jean Gonvers de Lussiez, résidant à Molen dessus de Bière", mentioned in a document of Urbain Campod, notary in the area of Lavigny, 18 may 1578, although we cannot be absolutely certain from the evidence so far discovered.
1580: de Lussy, demeurant au molin de Claude Lagnier. 1582, marriage: de La Viay, parish of Bellevaux, this notation apparently referring to his father.

This Jean is certainly the father of Discret Claude Convers and Pierre Convers, according to the undated quernet ACV Fh 31, apparently compiled for the Baron of Aubonne about 1580, based on internal evidence. The section relating to the properties held by Discret Claude and Pierre clearly says that they are brothers (fol. 88, for example). The section for the properties held by Jaques Convers says that he was a son of the late Jean Convers, and that adjacent property was held by Pierre son of "the said" Jean Convers (fol. 94). Further, adjacent properties were in the hands of Claudaz Convers, daughter of the late Jean Convers, and wife of Noel Messioux. The implication that Claude, Pierre, Jaques, and Claudaz were siblings, or at least half-siblings, seems inescapable. The marriage contract of his daughter Jaquemaz mentions her siblings Discret Claude, Pierre, Jaques, and Jean (Claude Mayor, notary, ACV DB 26/3 fol. 35v and 26/4 fol. 55v). The additional son Jean does not seem to be mentioned in the terriers Fh 175 (1622, citing by date reconnaissances from a previous terrier of 1570, now lost) or Fh 31 (about 1580), suggesting that he may have died before 1580. Since there is no citation for a reconnaissance in 1570, it is possible that his interests had been represented by one of his brothers,but there is no specific mention of this in Fh 175, which, however, contains many errors and inconsistencies.
