He is probably not the Moyse Barbie who made a testamentary donation 01 sep 1590 (Eg. Burnier, cited in a reconnaissance of 24 dec 1622 in the terrier ACV Fh 175 fol. 171) to Abraham Convers, who had married Leonarde Barbey. That Moyse Barbie, evidently much older than the present Moyse, was likely also the Moyse Barbey who had died by 01 sep 1609, resulting in a settlement involving François Barbyer of Ballens and Claudaz Barbey, wife of Pierre Mayor (ACV DB 26/9 fol. 88). The nature of these relationships, however, has not been discovered. Apparently the same Moyse Barbey was deceased by 07 jan 1602, when Hennarde Barbey, wife of Abraham Convers of Ballens, received 110 florins from François Guyon of Saulbré (=Saubraz) as a result of a previous settlement recorded by Eg. André Morsyer regarding the estate of the late Moyse Barbey of Ballens (Claude Mayor, notary, ACV DB 26/9 fol. 37). Another 110 florins was paid to François Barbey (not further identified?) as a result of the same settlement (08 oct 1601, DB 26/9 fol. 33v).

The Moyse Barbie baptised in 1577, then, was evidently named after the older man, and may have been his nephew. Although the usual practice was to baptise twins together, in the same ceremony, it is possible that Moyse and Jaques, apparently brothers, but baptised almost three months apart, really were twins, and not sons of two different men called Claude Barbey. However, the situation in this family is still not completely understood.
