The terriers, for example the section relating to Ballens in the terrier ACV FH 31 from about 1580, indicate that this Pierre was the father of Jaques and the late François, who had left two sons Sulpice and Pierre. This Jaques, with his nephews, held a 1/4 interest in a number of properties, another 1/2 owned by François son of the late Claude Mayor (the one designated as "pupil" above), and the remaining 1/4 held by "Discret" Claude Mayor (the notary whose records have survived 1567-1618, ACV DB 26) and his brothers Louis and François. These proportions would naturally follow if Pierre and Egrège Claude (father of Discret Claude the notary) were brothers, and if their uncle was Claude Mayor, father of the still-living François.
A different shared property, a vineyard at Aubonne "en Chevrajon" (modern spelling Chivrageon), which had been in the family since the end of the 15th Century, provides additional evidence concerning the relatives of Pierre, discussed more fully in the notes for his paternal ancestors.

This Pierre is apparently not the father of "Jaques norry de feu Pierre Mayor" mentioned as early as 1570 in notarial records. The latter Pierre is listed as deceased as early as May 1570, while the present Pierre died in November, according to the proceedings to establish his verbal will. This Pierre cannot be the son of the late François, either, as that Pierre is known to have been alive as late as 1596. However, this Pierre seems to be the brother of a somewhat mysterious Humbert Mayor, son of Ottonin (see notes on Pierre's son Anthoine). The terriers are clear on this point, so it seems that he was the Pierre who was the father of the notaries Antoine and Michel Mayor.
It must be another Pierre, this one the son of Jean, who was the father of Félix Mayor and his brother the minister Jaques Mayor, according to a number of "reconnaissances" found in the terriers of Aubonne. While there is at least one citation in the church records of a Félix son of Humbert Mayor in the early 17th Century, it now appears that he did not survive. The Félix who left children and who held property jointly with his brother the minister Jaques Mayor was the son of Pierre, son of Jean. See, for example, ACV FH 175 fol. 44 and elsewhere in the same terrier.
On the other hand, we are still wavering, because of the language of the nuncupative testament of the present Pierre. It was presented for probate 23 nov 1570 (Claude Mayor, notary, ACV DB 26/2, fol. 44v) by Egrège Michel Mayor in his own name and for Egrège Antoine Mayor his brother and their sisters Pernon and Marguerite. It also mentions Pierre's widow Françoise. The residual heirs are the said "Anthoine et Michel Mayor ses filz par egales portions", which seems to rule out Pierre as the father of two more sons Félix and Jaques, unless perhaps these two were sons by a previous wife. But that does not seem very logical, either, since Félix and Jaques left at least part of their inheritance—whatever it was—undivided until 1603. The conclusion we derive from the terriers examined so far is that there were two Pierres, one the son of Ottonin, the other the son of Jean.
A division of an obligation, this time derived from holdings originally dedicated for the support of a chapel at Aubonne, recorded in the terrier ACV FH 161, relates the succession of this obligation from Girard Cigoen and/or Agoen, represented 14 apr 1578 by Egrège Antoine and Egrège Michel Mayor (each obligated for 1/4), both sons of the late Pierre, and Humbert (for the other 1/2), son of Ottonin Mayor. The proportions again support the conclusion that Pierre and Humbert were brothers, and that Pierre left only the two sons, Antoine and Michel. How the family (Ottonin, in particular) came to hold property from Cigoen and/or Aigoen is not clear; in fact, the terriers seem perplexed: the name wavers among Cigoen, Tigoen, Aigoen, Agoen, etc., and it is not clear whether this constellation of similar names represents one Girard or two.
In the terrier FH 137 (1506, for the Château d'Aubonne) there seem to be three individuals: Girard, Pierre, and Jean Cigoen. The name in this terrier is clear almost everywhere it occurs. In the terrier FH 161, for the chapels of Aubonne, there are several spellings, apparently derived from a prior terrier compiled by Jean Thomasset, not yet identified.

Evidently the son of the late Jaques Mayor (1582), as the other candidate Pierre Mayors would seem to be too elderly. This one seems younger, though this depends on the identity of the "late Jaques". In 1598, the Pierre assumed to be identical is dit Tabourinaire. The scribe at that time spelled the surname Majour, with an unusual J that looks somewhat like a T. A reconnaissance of 1589 (ACV Fg 102 fol. 170) says he is Pierre son of the late Jaques Mayor.

This is also the Pierre son of Francois who acquired the vineyard at Nonsering that had been purchased in 1538 by Claudaz Darcier, widow of Pierre Bollosat, then inherited apparently by her daughter who was the wife of the notary Claude Mayor, then ceded from Claude to Pierre. It is possible therefore that Pierre and Claude were brothers. There are other hints in this direction, including association of Claude and Pierre with Louis Mayor.
However, a "recognoissance" made by Louis Mayor, officier de Ballens, 16 jun 1623 (ACV FH 175 fol. 90), shows that Louis was the son of the late Discret Claude Mayor son of Jaques Mayor of Ballens. The same Louis had a brother Claude, adult in 1570 and apparently deceased by 1623 (that Claude Mayor was the notary whose registers have survived, ACV DB 26). The ancestor Jaques is implied to have been the son of an earlier Pierre, and a part of the property mentioned was held jointly with Urbaine Mayor, known to be the daughter of Pierre Mayor from other entries in the same terrier FH 175. Thus, the parentage of the present Pierre may turn out to be in error.
On 01 sep 1609, François Barbyer of Ballens, with authorization from his uncles Paul and Rodz Barbyer of Ballens, made a settlement with Pierre son of the late François Mayor, acting for his wife Claudaz Barbey, regarding their claims on the estate of the late Moyse Barbey (Claude Mayor, notary, DB 26/9 fol. 88).

As an adult, he is usually called Félix or François Félix,
There was a Pierre François Félix Mayor who was a catechumen in 1732, implying a birth date about 1715. No corresponding baptism has been located, and very little additional information has been discovered. There are a number of small gaps in the church records of Ballens scattered throughout the first half of the 18th Century, perhaps explaining the lack of baptisms and marriages for this family. He had a brother Gabriel Mayor, who appeared at a sponsor at a baptism in 1751. This was evidently the Gabriel whose wife was Judith Berger.
His baptism could conceivavly be the one added later "on the word of the godfather", the councillor Saudan (19 jun 1752), for "Jean Felix" son of Albert Mayor and Gabrielle Fallerand. The baptism was supposed to have taken place "about 1730". However, that Jean Félix Mayor apparently married in 1781. It is possible, of course, that more than one baptism was not recorded in that family.
His full name is given in the baptism of his daughter Jeanne Louise, in 1762, a record that includes the name of his wife as well. Further, after he died, his daughterJeanne Susanne had an illegitimate child, baptised 24 aug 1770 at Bière. The sponsors for the baptism included Judith Berger, wife of Gabriel Mayor. There does not seem to be another Gabriel who could have been the brother of Pierre François Félix, so Judith's appearance at this baptism sems to support the parentage shown here. However, we have not yet identified the baptism of Jeanne Susanne herself! It may be possible to find her as a catechumen.

Apparently the same woman is called Rebeca Mayor at the baptism of her son Jean Salomon Prodolliet 26 sep 1663 at Yens, but the other baptisms of her children say Sara Mayor. Further, she is called Saraz Mayor widow of Jean Pierre Prodolliet (mother of sons Pierre, Jean Salomon, and Etienne) in a "reconnaissance" for property at Yens 20 nov 1676 (cited in the terrier of Yens ACV FH 246, fol. 445 and elsewhere).
She is identified as the daughter of the late Michel Mayor and the wife of Jaques Monod in the terrier ACV Fh 31 fol. 106v, circa 1580. This could be the origin of some of the "Monod alias Mayor" families mentioned in some of the terriers of that period, but this is still far from a complete explanation of the relationships of the Mayor and Monod families of Ballens. Does she belong here, or was she a daughter of the Michel Mayor who was never known as Monod, father of a son Claude Mayor?

There are very few clear references to Stephanodus, and it is entirely possible he was also called Stephanus or Stephanetus in some records. The most secure information seems to be that he was joint owner of a house in Aubonne ("in burgo hospitalis") with his brother Aymonetus Mayor senior in 1427, and that he died within a few years of that date, his half of the house then falling to his son Aymonetus Mayor junior (see the notes for Aymonetus Mayor senior for the citations in Fh 119, Fh 4, and Fh 5). In addition, it appears he was the father of a Stephanus Mayor whose daughter Stephana Mayor was the wife of Petrus Cigoen.
For the most part, the relationships stated in the terriers and other sources are relatively consistent with each other. However, there is one statement in P de Mestral I 1507 (fol. 326v, 23 jun 1488, commissaire Guilliermus Berardi, reconnaissance of Petrus Bosson alias Cigoen with his wife Stephana, daughter of the late Stephanus Mayor), namely, that both Stephana and her cousin Mondetus Mayor were grandchildren of Aymonetus Mayor (whether this was Aymonetus senior or junior is not stated), that causes difficulty. The actual relationship seems to be that Aymonetus junior was their great-uncle rather than their grandfather. The passage in question is: "unam posam terre per dictum Johannem de Frigidavilla et Jacobum eius filium Aymoneto Mayor dictorum Stephane et quondam Mondeti avo venditam precio sexaginta solidorum bone monete constante lictera per Petrum (surname of the notary omitted, and we are not certain when this sale was supposed to have happened) recepta et per prefatum dominum in presenti extenta laudata". Perhaps the commissaire did not understand the actual relationship, or perhaps "grandfather" was considered sufficiently precise for the purposes of this reconnaissance.
The relationship of Mondetus and Stephana is of some interest, apart from the identity of their shared grandfather, because in the next generation, Petrus Mayor junior, son of Mondetus, married Johanneta, daughter of Stephana. Mondetus and Stephana were first cousins, and so their children were second cousins, a premissible degree of consanguineity for marriage at that time.
