Her baptism at Lausanne, performed by "Dutilh M. D. S. E." (the abbreviation means "Ministre du Saint Evangile"), indicates the parents as "Mayor, ministre a Aubonne et sa femme". Gedeon listed his children at the end of a register of marriages at Aubonne, and gives the date 11 jul 1670, which we interpret as the birth date. He writes with astonishingly bad spelling, "a eté batisee a Losane et presantee au Sins bataime par Monsieur le Ministre Duti."

He is the subject of a reconnaissance in the terrier ACV Fg 2 for the Priory of Romainmotier (fol. 13), which clearly states that he, for himself and his heirs, holds the "moioria" of Ballens for the benefit of the Priory, for which he receives a one-eighth share of the "dîme" (Latin decima, a tax of one tenth of certain crops from lands subject to the Priory of Romainmôtier). While there is no proof that we have found all of his descendants who held the hereditary mayorie of Ballens, it is clear that this office was intended to be passed from father to eldest son. Presumably, in the event that there were no surviving sons, the office could be passed to a son-in-law who would then take the surname Mayor, or possibly to a brother, at the discretion of the prior. The reconnaissance was made around the time of Pentecost, in June, 1337. The text is quoted in full:
Vuilliermus Maior de Ballens censerius domini prioris Romanimonasterii juratus tenet ab eodem moioriam de Ballens pro se et suis heredibus — modicus casalis domus sue juxta domum heredum Mathey Foz situs apud Ballens. Item, unam ochiam juxta terram heredum predicti Mathei Foz. En la Fustrana ? circa i posam terre cum dimidia juxta terram Nicolai dicti Cler. En la Croiz circa i posam cum dimida terre (inserted by reference mark : juxta pratum filii Johannis dicti Fouz . En la Condemina de Goilles circa v posas terre) juxta terram heredum dicti Gay.
