This strange name appears several times in the records at Gimel without explanation. One record gives the surname as Molaz, another Mollard.

He is called Andreas Maency de Ballens in a "reconnaissance" dated 19 oct 1452 (ACV IB 295a/735, signed Fabri), which names his wife and his mother, both named Aymoneta.

He sold property in the village of Ballens to his son Claude 07 nov 1571 (Claude Mayor, notary, ACV DB 26/4 fol. 22v). With his wife Claudaz, he also sold additional property at Ballens, lieudit "au Montellier", to his son Claude 29 feb 1572 (DB 26/4 fol. 36v). From these citations, it is clear that the references to Claude son of the late André Mayenche in the 1622 terrier of Ballens (ACV FH 175) as a land owner in 1570 have been rephrased. That is, when we read "Claude son of the late André" in the terrier, even when the passage in question appears to be a paraphrase of a "reconnaissance" dated 1570, we cannot infer that André had died before 1570. The terrier of 1570 from which these citations were drawn in the preparation of the terrier of 1622 has not yet been identified; it may be one of the several surviving terriers known to have been prepared by George Dunant and Pierre Tripod about that time.
In any case, the terrier of 1622 shows that the Mayenchiz family, under several possible spellings, owned land at Ballens from at least the beginning of the 16th Century. By the 1570's, they also owned land jointly with the Lambert and Monod families.

He is apparently the Anthonius filius quondam Andree Mayencyz of Ballens who acknowledged property in the terrier ACV FH 137 (fol. 408) on 11 may 1506. He had a brother Pierre, and the two of them had previously recognized the same property in the previous terrier compiled by Jean Vullieti.

He had evidently reached the age of majority by 07 nov 1571, when he purchased property from his father André Mayenchiz (Claude Mayor, notary, ACV DB 26/4 fol. 22v).

The wife of Louis Vieux (Vyoux, etc.) was apparently a sibling of Antoine, Jean, and Ottonin Mayor, sons of Michel, who owned half of a vineyard at Aubonne "en Chevrajon" (modern spelling Chivrageon) that had been divided into fourths by 1566 (ACV Fh 153, fols. 318 and 704). The parties were Jeanne daughter of Antoine, Pierre son of Jean, Humbert son of Ottonin, and the two sons of Louis Vieux. The property had previously been owned entirely by the Mayor family. A connection between the Vieux family and the Mayor family is implied in a number of other records as well.
