A reconnaissance in the terrier ACV Fh 137 (fol. 141, 06 jul 1506) shows that Stephanus Tripodi was acting as guardian of Bernard Salliet, thus under the age of 25, for property at St. Livres. This document give the parentage of Bernard as the son of Jean, in turn the son of Pierre son of Aymonet Salliet. It is possible there was more than Bernard Salliet in this area in the middle of the 16th Century.
By 1514 (Fh 144, fol. 112), Bernard son of Jean is acting on his own, thus over the age of 25, and he is given the alias des Oches. He is now married to Peornete.

With his brother Bartholomey, he made a "reconnaissance" 13 jan 1575 for property at St. Livres (ACV Fh 159 fol. 284v), which also gives the name of his mother.

She had died by 17 may 1579, when her brother Bernard Sallier of St. Livres made a settlement for himself and for his nephew Alexandre (no surname given) versus Claude Monod the elder and Claude Monod the younger, sons of the late Pierre Monod of Ballens, in which Bernard asked for restitution of the marriage settlement of his late sister Marguerite Salliet, mother of said Alexandre, and late wife of the said Pierre Monod (ACV DB 26/3 fol. 59v).

Apparently noted as Officier de Morges in 1601, on which occasion the surname looks more like "Salen".
Baptismal record was copied and sent to another parish 05 nov 1700, according to a marginal note in the baptismal register.

He is apparently the Anthoine Soudan who is mentioned in connection with a dispute over a feudal obligation of 22 cups of grain in 1546 and again in 1561 (ACV C XX 18/11 and IB 296b 896). The Antoine in question had died by 1561, leaving a son Pierre; Antoline was the son of the late Nicod, and brother of Pierre, who was still living in 1561.
The dispute of 1561 concerns property that had been held by Jean de Plaict, son of Aymonet de Plaict and Pernette Soudan. The parties of the dispute, from the Lambert, Soudan, and Mayor families, are described as "successeurs, bientenants, et causayants", suggesting that Jean de Plaict had died without heirs (he had made a reconnaissance in 1474), so that the property had reverted to other descendants of the Soudan family. The dispute cites a "reconnaissance" for the property in question (described as "la tierce partie des biens que feurent des feuz Souldans de Ballens") by "Pernette fillie de feu Perret Souldans de Ballens femme d'Aymonet de Plaict mere du susdict Jehan de Plaict receue par Egrege Estienne Barbier de Biere et signée par commission par Egrege Pierre Thomasset de Vynssy notaire du seziesme de Juing mil quattre cens cinquante". However, apparently the same Pernette is described in a reconnaissance recorded just a few years later (ACV Fh 123, fol. 212v, 01 mar 1455, commissaire Pierre Mangie ) as "Peroneta relicta Aymoneti de Playt de Apples filia quondam Amsermi Hudrici de eodem", involving, however, property that had been previously recognized by Huguetus and Perrodus , brothers, sons of the late Hudricus dictus Soudans. Another reconnaissance in the same terrier (fol. 210) was made by a different Huguetus Soudans, son of the late Johannes, also based on the previous reconnaissance by Huguetus and Perrodus sons of the late Hudricus Soudans. A possible solution to this discrepancy is given in a reconnaissance by Nicod Soudan dated 12 sep 1510 for property previously purchased by Johannes Soudan from Peroneta daughter of the late Ansermus Hudrici de Apples wife of Aymoneti de Plait de Pampigny in 1423 (Fh 137 fol. 447v). Also another property that was sold to Nycodus by Johannes de Plait (rec. Girardus de Chardone, notary, 10 oct 1490).
Antoine is identified as a brother of Pierre and Claude, sons of the late Nicod Soudan, in the terrier ACV Fg 52, for the Priory of Romainmôtier (fol. 177, 04 mar 1531).

The surname is spelled Soudan or Soudans in many of the early records. In the church records of Ballens and in the records of the notaries who originated in Ballens, it is most often spelled Saudan. In a reconnaissance of 26 nov 1454, ACV Fh 123, fol. 206, Nycolleta, wife of Petrus Mayor, is identified as the daughter of the late Aynonetus Soudans, for property formerly recognized by Huguetus and Perretus Soudans, brothers, sons of the late Hudricus Soudans. It is not yet clear from which of these brothers Aymonetus descends.
