A document in the dossier concerning the Marcel family at the Archives de la Ville de Lausanne shows that the mother of the illegitimate child of Henri Marcel was the daughter of the schoolmaster and "astronome" Aigroz, who was still alive circa 1800. Since Jeanne Sophie Aigroz was apparently a young woman at that time, the only one of the "astrologues" of the Aigroz family who could be her father is Daniel Siméon, who was at that time had retired from his position as the schoolmaster at Champtauroz. Much earlier, he had been involved in the family business, the publication of almanacs. The story of this family was the subject of an extended memoir by Marc Henriod, "Les astrologues de Combremont-le-Petit et leurs almanachs", Revue Historique Vaudoise 21:65-71, 211-223, 225-237, 257-273 (1913).
In 1796, Daniel Siméon resigned from his position as the schoolmaster at Champtauroz because of his advanced years. However, his successor, his son Jean Guillaume Aigroz, was born 23 nov 1769, and seems not to have married until 1814, thus not likely the father of Jeanne Sophie Aigroz.
The baptism of Henri Siméon Marcel, and other documents relating to his paternity, make it clear that Daniel Siméon was the father of Jeanne Sophie. Her baptism was recorded at Bercher, but not copied into the church books at Combremont until 1791. The same situation applies to most of the other children of Daniel Siméon, records of their baptisms in other places were later forwarded to Combremont at his request.
There is a record of the confirmation of Anne Catherine Aigroz, "fille de feu Daniel Siméon Aigroz de Combremont-le-Petit", at Pentecost, 1766. She was born at Yverdon 23 may 1749 and baptised there 30 may 1749, according to the church records at Combremont. However, the Daniel Siméon Aigroz who married Marie Jeanne Michon survived until 1805, "mort de vieillesse" (this record also gives his birth date). Does the confirmation record reveal the existence of another man of the same name? We think it more likely that the word "feu" is simply an error. Or, perhaps, an erroneous report of his death had reached Combremont, since Daniel Siméon may have been away on military service at that time. There does not seem to be any other record that implies the existence of two men of this name. The baptism of Anne Catherine, incidentally, is the only record that mentions his (first?) wife Susanne Bourgeois.
Daniel Siméon son of David Aigroz was confirmed at Combremont at Easter, 1743.
Marcel dossier at the Archives de la Ville de Lausanne includes a mention that she was the daughter of the "astronome" Aigroz, presumably meaning that her father was one of that family who published almanacs. She was evidently from the parish of Combremont, because the same dossier, in a memorial dated 19 jan 1799, in which she is accompanied by her father, "Régent de Champtauraz", notes that Henri Marcel appeared before the consistory of that parish in connection with the birth of their illegitimate son Henri Siméon Marcel.
Her baptism at Bercher was later copied into the registers at Combremont. One of the sponsors at the baptism was her brother Jean Louis Aigroz, "fils ainé du susdit Régent père".
