He is on the refugee census of 1698 in Lausanne, a "marchand drappier", from Châteauneuf d'Isère, age 35, with his wife Lucrèce Chene age 26, and their son Antoine age 18 months. The baptism of this son (Pierre Antoine) also says that Antoine the father was from Châteauneuf, but the next baptism, 20 aug 1699, for his daughter Dauphine Judith, says he is from Vallence. We have probably missed several more children from this family; the next baptism for this family was recorded in 1707.
A history from the Oboussier family of Aarau (1999) provided by Bill Davis gives him three wives. The first, Madelaine Laubert, apparently belongs to an earlier generation, since she remarried in 1690 in Lausanne, as the widow of Antoine Oboussier! The second, Marguerite Jean, is said to have married Antoine in 1693, with no known children from this marriage. The family in Aarau also has a letter of recommendation for Antoine Oboussier, merchant born to protestant parents in Châteauneuf-sur-Isère, age 22, signed at Geneva 02 oct 1685. This information is consistent with the refugee census and the church records in Lausanne.
His testament dated 19 mar 1734 was probated at Lausanne 18 may 1734 (ACV Bg 13bis/6 p. 10). It names his wife Lucrèce Chesne, her brother Antoine Chesne (bourgeois de Lausanne), their son Antoine Oboussier, and their daughter Marie who had married Sr. Regnier (or Reynier, possibly the more "correct" spelling) bourgeois de Vevey. The testament was recorded by Sébastien Bettex. This testament is somewhat peculiar in that it does not also name the son Pierre Antoine. Absent other evidence, we were prepared to believe that the child baptised as Pierre Antoine had simply become Antoine in his later life. However, the testament of Elizabeth Currit, widow of Pierre Antoine Oboussier, and the age at death for an Antoine Oboussier, suggest that these were two different people. It is possible that Pierre Antoine had already received a donation from his father and so was not named in the testament. Pierre Antoine, if he really did survive to adulthood and was not the person who married Esther Regnier, might have lived in another parish, which would explain why we did not find the baptisms the three daughters named in the testament of Elizabeth Currit. The history of 1999 mentions that Pierre Antoine was an apprentice goldsmith with Abraham Glaire in 1711 in Lausanne, and that his wife was Sara Elizabeth Currit. Might Pierre Antoine have spent much of his life in Geneva? The 1999 history gives Pierre Antoine's dates as 1697-1766, but with a notation that the death date may actually be that of the Antoine who married Louise Giscard.

We first thought that the Antoine Oboussier who married Esther Regnier was the one baptised in 1697 as Pierre Antoine Oboussier. However, it now seems more likely that the present Antoine's baptism was simply not recorded. Bureaucratic obstacles seem to have interfered with the recording of baptisms about this time.
His testament dated 17 feb 1766 was probated at Lausanne 25 feb 1766 (ACV Bg 13bis/10 p. 12). It names his wife Louise Giscard, and children Antoinette Lucrèce, Jean Christophle, Jean Antoine, Samuel Wolfgand, Jeanne Louise, Charles Isaac, Marie, and Jean Samuel, as well as his cousin the minister Chevailler (=Chevalier) at Morges. The testament was recorded by François Burnier. The list of children includes some from each of his marriages.
There is a testament of Elizabeth Oboussier née Currit, undated, probated at Lausanne 06 feb 1784, which says she was the widow of Pierre Antoine Oboussier (ACV Bg 13bis/12 p. 128v). The testament names daughters Louise, Jeanne, and Marie Anne, but we have not located their baptisms. The same Elizabeth Oboussier née Currit appears at the baptism of Marie Françoise, daughter of Antoine Oboussier and Louise Giscard, 26 nov 1752, suggesting that "Pierre Antoine" may not have been the one who married Esther Regnier and Louise Giscard. This possibility is also suggested by the death record for an Antoine Oboussier at Lausanne 19 feb 1766, with burial on 21 feb 1766, this person listed as age 64. That would be just a little too young for Pierre Antoine, whose baptism was recorded in 1697.

His existence is attested by the marriage of his widow Magdelaine Laubert 26 oct 1690 to Estienne Chaix of Beaufort en Dauphiné, at Lausanne. It seems very likely that he is the father of the next Antoine Oboussier, from Châteauneuf d'Isère, who appears in Lausanne to baptise his son Pierre Antoine 29 mar 1697. About the same time, and after the remarriage of Antoine Oboussier's widow in 1690, apparently another Antoine Oboussier, from Vallence, age 50, is noted at Vevay (refugee census of 1696). However, the next baptism for the Antoine Oboussier of Lausanne, 1699, says he is from Vallence as well! There is almost certainly a connection between the Oboussier of Vevey and the Oboussier of Lausanne, but no proof has yet been found.
A history of the Oboussier family compiled by Jean-François-Michel Oboussier of Aarau (1999), provided by Bill Davis, appears to confound some of the early records. It makes Magdelaine Laubert the first of three wives of the next Antoine Oboussier, the one born about 1662 (this version shows the corresponding death date as 1743, probably a typographical error for the documented date of 1734), and says that Madelaine had died before 1690. Then, this version gives the second wife as Marguerite Jean (married in 1693, no known children), and the third as Lucrèce Chesne. Since the marriage of Magdelaine Laubert in 1690 is so clearly recorded in the church registers of Lausanne, it is apparent that her first husband must not have been the one born about 1662.
The 1999 history quotes family records and information gleaned from French sources. One of the documents held by the family is a "laisser-passer", a letter of recommendation from the minister of Châteauneuf-sur-Isère (or possibly from Valence), signed at Geneva, 02 oct 1685. The minister (his name not given in the 1999 history) says that Anthoine Oboussier, born at Châteauneuf-sur-Isère, aged about 22 years, merchant, was born to Protestant parents. It does not mention other family members. The history also quotes a statement from a family member who investigated the family history in 1902, reporting that registers still at Valence at that time recorded a denunciation of protestants on 26 dec 1685, including Antoine Oboussier, son of Jean "Oboussier-Fouillouzon". This Jean Oboussier Fouillouzon is said to have had two sons named Antoine, one born about 1654, the other about 1662. In 1902, this information was interpreted in the light of modern practices, and so it was supposed that the first Antoine had died in infancy. However, in the records of the 17th Century, it is certainly possible to encounter families where two sons have been given the same name, and where both have survived. This Jean Oboussier Fouillouzon was apparently the son of an Antoine Oboussier Fouillouzon cited in a terrier or cadastre of 1592.
There would seem to be at least two possible solutions to the problem of the parentage of the Antoine Oboussier born about 1662: If his mother was Magdelaine Laubert, then it is more likely that her first husband was Jean Oboussier, not Antoine Oboussier as stated in the marriage record of 1690. Or, it may be that Magdelaine Laubert was the widow of a different Antoine Oboussier, perhaps the older brother of the one born about 1662, or one from a different Oboussier family. The 1999 history gives the dates for Jean Oboussier as 1622-1692, no source given. If these dates are correct, our second hypothesis becomes more likely.
The use of the "nom composée" Oboussier Fouillouzon suggests that the Oboussier family must have been numerous enough that it had become necessary to distinguish among the various branches of the family by the use of an additional name. The conclusion that they were numerous is supported, also, by the existence of another Antoine Oboussier from the same area and born about 1642, who appears as a refugee at Vevey. Further research in Geneva and Drôme is certainly warranted!

The sponsors at her baptism included Antoine Oboussier and Lucrèce Chesne, thus ruling out the possibility that the father of the child was the elder Antoine with a different wife. This child is almost certainly the Lucrèce Bailly née Oboussier, sister of the child of Antoine Oboussier and Louise Giscard baptised in 1751, thus proving that the Antoine who married Louise Giscard was the same Antoine who had married Esther Regnier.

Though baptised as Antoine, he is apparently the Jean Antoine Oboussier who married Jeanne Susanne Daller. His father's testament calls him Jean Antoine. His death record indicates he had served as "président municipal" of Lausanne.
Some of the information about this family comes from transcripts of the Lausanne and Vevey church records kindly provided by Nancy J. Emmert, CG.
After the Revolution of 1798, the government of the city of Lausanne was reorganized. The first stage of the reorganization resulted in an executive council of 11 members called the "municipalité". Jean Antoine Oboussier was the first president of this body (20 apr 1799 – 01 may 1800). The République Lémanique was soon replaced by the République Helvétique (1803), and the government of Lausanne was again reorganized. This time executive power was vested in a "conseil municipal" headed by a "syndic", and a deliberative body, the "conseil communal" was added, an organization that has survived, with modifications, until today. Jean Antoine Oboussier would have been a radical choice in 1799. Until that point, Lausanne had been controlled almost exclusively by the old families distinguished by their wealth and their aristocratic pedigrees. Oboussier had some wealth—historians sometimes call him a banker—but his pedigree in Lausanne was very short.

Oboussier family records indicate he acquired full citizenship at Lausanne in 1768, the same year he married Jeanne Louise Piccard. However, from the baptisms, we see that either the year or part of the story must be incorrect. The previous generations of the Oboussier family had been "habitants perpetuel", not "bourgeois".
