George is the missing link to tie all of the Alexander McCoy story together. Is the George McCoy, administrator of estate of Alexander McCoy in Adams Co., OH, the same as the George mentioned by the Brown Co., IL history, and the son of Alexander Sr. who fathered Alexander McCoy b. 1847? I am willing to believe this, because it provides the simplest explanation for all the existing facts.

Brown County, Illinois Guardian's Bonds vol. A p. 18 has a bond dated 18 mar 1862, in which Alexander McCoy and Alford Simpson are appointed guardians for Alexander McCoy, minor heir of George McCoy late of said county, deceased. Since the other son, Sidney, is not mentioned, he was evidently already dead by that date. The guardians were changed by a bond on p. 53 of the same volume, 18 sep 1865, Alexander A. Curry and J. R. Curry guardians for Alexander McCoy Jr., minor heir of George McCoy deceased.

[6365] however, note Adams Co. OH land entries 1817, Alexander, John, and George McCoy, James Miller, and David McBride, entry #700, apparently Byrd Tp. George is present in 1850 census, living near the A.D. Draper family.

[6366] Listed in (indexed) 1860 Census Mortality Schedule: George McCoy, 52, MD, consumption, Brown Co. But he is not listed in the collected cemetery records of Brown Co., IL. Probate records give death date as 01 jul 1860.

[14839] Brown Co. marriage records Book A #313 has George McCoy m. Nancy Wheeler. This would account for parentage of Alexander McCoy b. 1847, the date of same, and the fact that he is being cared for by Minerva Wheeler Draper 1850.

[14840] Marriage record says George McCoy and Arrena Keys.
