Oscar would have been living with his mother and stepfather in 1840, and was dead by 1850. He was in Montgomery Co., OH by early 1841. Between 1841 and 1844, he had 2 children. Oscar and his wife are believed to have died after the rest of the family moved to Brown Co., IL, and son David is living with a seemingly unrelated family in 1850. Foster family is: Joseph McCammon b. 1800 PA, cabinet maker, wife Maria b. 1820 NJ, son John E. b. 1837 OH. Carol Wilsey Bell's Ohio Wills & Estates records an estate administration in 1844 for an Oscar McCoy in Butler Co, OH, listed as a-t7 p 342 (Administrations and Letters Testamentary, vol. 7, p 342). This should be checked, as well as guardianship proceedings.
Genealogist Dick Gault was able to locate the estate file for Oscar at the Butler Co. court house. The file provides the widow's given name and contains several inventories. It is evident that Oscar was a carpenter who made cabinetry and furniture of cherry and maple. The file says that Letitia then had 2 children, though only one is now know to the rest of the family. Guardianship file should tell us about the missing child and the death date of the widow.
It is possible that Oscar was related by marriage to Joseph McCammon. They were both cabinet makers, and it seems likely that they worked together at some point, most likely in Montgomery Co. Joseph married first Eliza Jane Burns on 14 jun 1833 (supposedly in Montgomery Co., but I could not find the record there). She died 04 feb 1839, and Joseph then remarried to Maria, born about 1820 in New Jersey (1850 census; this marriage likewise not recorded in Montgomery Co., perhaps because marriages for the years 1849-1850 are lost). By his first marriage, Joseph had Joseph Emery McCammon b. 08 aug 1837, who was listed in error as John E. McCammon in the 1850 census. Information on the Joseph McCammon family was posted on the internet by Catherine Hecker, cohecker@hotmail.com.
It is just possible that Maria was the sister of Luticia Stuart who married Oscar McCoy, as that would make the McCammon family in-laws and would explain the fact that Oscar's son David was living with the McCammon family in 1850, rather than with Oscar's relatives. Nevertheless, it is clear that Oscar had moved to Butler Co. by the time of his death, and left an estate there. He does not seem to have left an estate in Montgomery Co. It appears that Oscar died before Luticia, and she probably moved with her children to Montgomery Co. before she, too, died.
[1661] Estate adm. there 09 mar 1844, but son David is living with Joseph McClammon family in Dayton in 1850. 1972 History of Brown Co., IL indicates Oscar and his wife died likely of TB and Roger O'Hare went to Ohio to bring back David.

About 1875, Oscar McCoy started the Versailles Brickyard. An extensive account of this venture is given in the 1972 History of Brown Co., IL, p. 680. Oscar served on the Versailles Village Board in 1896 and 1898-1903, and was also president of the school board.
He obtained a patent (No. 337,180, granted 02 mar 1886) for a "Drying-Shed for Bricks". The text of the patent specification bears the curious heading, "Oscar McCoy, of Versailles, Illinois, assignor of one-half to Louisia A. Allen of Laclede, Missouri", and the witnesses were J. H. Allen and John W. Wells. On FamilySearch.org, we find that J. H. Allen married Louisa A. McCoy in Brown Co., Illinois (index entry only, no additional information there). Louisa was almost certainly Oscar's sister. We think we have found the Allen family in the 1880 census of Monroe, Monroe Co., Missouri (ED 51, p. 18): John H. Allen, 33, occupation "ministry", his wife Louisa A., 33, and John W. Wells, "servant", age 14 (or possibly 17). In 1900, this couple lived in Portland, Oregon, no children indicated. By 1920, he was a minister living at 591 North El Molino Avenue in Pasadena, California, and applied for a passport for missionary work in the British Isles. The passport application states that he was born 04 may 1847 in Griggsville, Illinois, son of Augustus Allen. Also, he states that he has a daughter Margaret born 21 mar 1880 in Alpena, Michigan. Is it possible that Margaret was actually born in 1881, since she is not noted on the 1880 census? However, Margaret D. Allen made a passport application at the same time, and says she was in fact born 21 mar 1880. Other records show that she was actually his "foster daughter". The 1920 census shows John H. Allen in Pasadena, widowed, with daughter Margaret, age 40. He and his daughter Margaret, a caterer, are in the 1915 Pasadena city directory, at the same address. He died in Pasadena 14 may 1930. He was associated with the "British Israelism" movement, which holds that the British people are descendants of the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel. An internet source gives his name as John Harden Allen. John Allen, age 23, was a laborer in the Susan McCoy household in the 1870 census (Versailles, Brown Co., Illinois).

This couple has not yet been located in census records. According to records collected by Mary Fouts, Pekin, IL, John R. Morrison d. 1878 and Rebecca remarried 10sep1879 to James Turner (or Turney) and is present in 1880 Shelby Co. census.
[6397] According to notes of Mary Fouts from obit., birthplace was Morgan Co., OH. However, we think this is either just an error or that Morgan Co., IN was intended? However, census records indicate b. OH.

See Gallatin Co., KY (birthplace claimed for Georgette McCoy); Hamilton Co., OH (where Isaac Whitesides lived); Warren Co., OH (where Georgette McCoy was married); Butler Co., OH (where Louisa Marcelles remarried); and Montgomery Co., OH (where David McCoy was living after the death of Oscar). No marriage for Oscar has yet been found. It would be helpful to turn up any additional record of this family between 1830 and 1844.
