Several of the early genealogies show Sarah Maynard as the wife of John Day. Later researchers name Mary Gaylord as his first wife and Sarah Butler as a second wife.
Will of John Maynard shows that John Day was to inherit Maynard's land after the death of his mother, Editha...see "Digest of the Early Connecticut Probate Records" by Manwaring.
It is likely that John Day named his son, Maynard, after his step-father.

William Gaylord was a deacon, chosen at the gathering of the church in 1630, at Plymouth, ENG. He came in the "Mary & John" with his wife, Mary (Walter) Gaylord and five children.....Walter, Samuel, John, William, and Elizabeth. They landed at Dorchester, MA, in the spring of 1630. In 1635 some of the party, including the Gaylord family, journeyed to the Connecticut Valley and located at what is now Windsor, CT, bringing their church organization with them. William, a life deacon, held many local offices and was one of the leading citizens of Windsor. He was a representative up until 1644. He died in 1673.
