Document of Isaac Guibaud, notary, 15 apr 1690, has Barthelemy Genevois, father-in-law of Jean Barnaud, paying off a contract by way of a marriage settlement. Since Jean Barnaud was also the "cousin" of Elizabeth Genevois, daughter of Louis Genevois, it appears Barthelemy and Louis would be brothers.
The minutaires of Jaques Besson, notary at Lausanne, include a loose leaf dated 19 apr 1686 "styl ancien" (Switzerland was still on the Julian reckoning, and would not change until the beginning of 1700). The document recounts that Barthelemy Genevois, merchant of La Mure, Dauphiné, declares that the release (quittance) executed for him by Jean Barnaud of La Mure, his son-in-law, for 1000 livres, "ne feront aucune prejudice aux droits et avantages que honorable Magdeleyne Genevois sa fille et femme dudit Sr. Barnaud peut avoir sur les biens dudit Sr. Barthelemy". Reference is made to a document recorded by Sr. Depres, notary of La Mure, 03 sep 1685 (just a few days before the official revocation of the Edict of Nantes). From the document recorded at Lausanne, we can infer that Jean Barnaud and his family were protestants who fled to Switzerland some time in 1685, when the Dragoons of the king were harassing the protestant villages of the Dauphiné. Further, it appears that Barthelemy Genevois remained in La Mure longer, but it is apparent that he finally did travel to Lausanne. The reference to "styl ancien", however, implies that the document was intended for possible use in a country such as France that had already adopted the calendar reforms, and thus it is possible that Barthelemy still regarded La Mure has his principal residence in 1686. He was definitely still in La Mure 26 sep 1685, when his abjuration from the protestant faith was recorded at the catholic church of La Mure.
(The notary of La Mure was probably Nicolas Despres, some of whose registers for this period have survived. They are catalogued at the Archives of Isère, France, as III. E. 1.354 (21 items, 1656-1690, some years missing, plus loose papers catalogued as III. E. 1.516.)

Appears as the grandfather of one of the children of Jean Genevois and Judith Barnaud. He is evidently the same Jean Genevois of La Mure, Dauphiné, who appears in the 1698 refugee census in Lausanne with wife Philippe Marvieux (most likely Malvieux), with a son 18 and daughter 13. Birthdates of Jean and Philippe are taken from their marriage record at La Mure, a bit off from later records. The 1698 list of Huguenot refugees at Lausanne give his age as 67.

Noted as cousin of Jeanne Richard, widow of Pierre Marcel, in documents of Isaac Guibaud, notary, 10 jan 1724 etc. Account of his son Alexandre in the Dictionnaire Biographique Genevois & Vaudois gives surname as "Detienne dit Genevois". It is possible, therefore, that the family will appear in La Mure as Genevois D'Etienne or vice versa, with a compound surname (the French terminology for this practice is "nom composé").
His testament of 23 may 1731 was probated at Lausanne 10 jul 1731. He left a special bequest to Mr. Papu, maitre chirurgien à Morges, "mon estui de lancettes d'argent et garni, pour luy donner une petite marquee de la reconnaissance que je dois à Mr. son pere." He names his children Judith, Jean Alexandre, and François Louys; brothers-in-law Secretan and the ministers Marindin and Barnaud, and his wife, her name not given (ACV Bg 13bis/5, fol. 152).
