He later settled in New Orleans, where he married and raised a family. At the time of his marriage, he is described as a Swiss soldier in the company of Grondel (but the script of the time is ambiguous, and could equally well be read as Groudel or possibly even Groubel or Groubet) and a native of Moudon in the Swiss Canton of Bern. By 1763, at the baptism of his first son Louis, he is described as a cobbler. (There is some suspicion that there may have been two Guidroz in New Orleans, Abraham Daniel and Abraham Philippe. More research is needed, but the marriage record in 1762 names the groom's parents as Jean Pierre Guidroz and Ursule "Poterhain", a reasonable attempt at the unfamiliar name Poeterlin. There is no doubt that this Abraham belongs here. The possibility that the Abraham who settled in New Orleans was instead Abraham Philippe Guidroz, born in 1739, is ruled out for two reasons: First, the Abraham who settled in New Orleans died before 1778, when his widow appears for the first time in local census records, and second, that Abraham Philippe, son of the same parents, died in 1779 in Moudon, age 40. In fact, the 1779 death date that appears in some internet sources for the family tree of the Guidroz family in New Orleans could easily be a conflation of the records of Moudon and New Orleans!)
Several internet sources give his death date as 28 apr 1802, but there are other sources that say he died in 30 sep 1777 (one such source also gives incorrect dates for Abraham's birth, in December instead of November 1730, and for Catherine, in 1731 instead of 1733). We not yet located any authentic record in New Orleans that gives his age, middle name, or birthdate, and therefore we cannot confirm that he is indeed the Abraham Daniel Guidroz born in 1730. The possibility remains that there may have been another, younger son of Jean Pierre and Ursule who also bore the name Abraham. On the other hand, however, it seems more likely that Catherine, born in New Orleans in 1733 or 1731, would have remarried to a man approximately her own age or a little older.
We also found a version with a death date of "sometime in 1779", but with some interesting notes: "[Guidroz McKinley.FTW] Came to New Orleans to keep peace during troubled times before the Louisiana Purchase. Arrived around 1760. In the Louisiana Census & militia list of 1770. he was listed as Sergeant in the Third Company K of the Militia of New Orleans. He lived at house # 28 on Dauphine Street. He was listed as a master cobbler. Abraham was a recruit in the "Karrar Regiment" of Swiss trooops sent to New Orleans to keep the peace during the troubled timesbefore the Louisiana Purchase. He arrived in New Orleans around 1760. While a soldier, he married Catherine Belle Marie Buquoy (daughter of Henry Buquoy and Charlotte Trevenar) of New Orleans on July 20, 1762 at the St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans. It wasn't until around 1769, when Spanish Govenor O'Reilly arrived in New Orleans, that Abraham was released from his enlistment and chose to stay in New Orleans. Abraham died in New Oleans sometime in 1779. Only one other Guidroz made it to America during the 1700's. He landed in the
Carolinas and there is no record of his survival or of any descendants. At the present time, there are no known Guidroz living in Moudon, Switzerland. The name
is unkown there." This account was posted on the old Genealogy.com web site by Glen T. Guidroz of Texas, last updated in 2004."
The "Régiment de Karrer" (properly Karrer), known after 1752 as the Régiment de Hallwyl, was a Swiss foreign regiment in French colonial service 1719-1763. It appears Guidroz must have served in the fourth company, raised in 1731, stationed in Louisiana until 1764. References to him as a member of the militia in New Orleans (for example, the militia census of 1770) must refer to the local, civilian militia, not the Hallwyl regiment of French troops.

Her name in the record of the baptism of her daughter Marie Catherine, 10 oct 1723, looks like Chapuis. We are treating this as a clerical error, but it happens again at the baptism of her son Jean Samuel, 18 jan 1727, her daughter Anne Marie, 14 aug 1728, and her daughter Anne Esther 22 jul 1730. Did Daniel have two wives named Jaquemaz? If so, where is the second marriage? Which children belong to which mother?

His death is recorded at Moudon (ACV Eb 88/11, Paroisse de Moudon, décès 1727-1764): "Jean Pierre Guidroz Heraut Bourgeois de Moudon agé d’environ quarante six ans ayant eté attaqué d’ethysie dont il a langui autour de deux ans est mort le 21 septembre 1746 à quatre heures du matin et a eté enterré le lendemain à quatre heures du soir. Il laisse une veufve, cinq filles & deux fils."
A testament by his wife, dated 17 aug 1751 and probated 08 sep 1751 (ACV DL 11/32), refers to him as the late herald of Moudon, presumably a ceremonial post associated with the town council. In the same series of registers (DL 11/31) there are some mentions of the estate of "feu l'officier ballival Guidroz"; however, from some of the dates, it is clear that these refer to the family of Philippe Guidroz "vivant officier ballivale de Moudon" (26 nov 1744, accounts submitted by Duperron, guardian for his nieces Guidroz; 20 apr 1746, partages for the children of the late Officier Ballival Guidroz de Moudon and a letter of rent in favor of his sons; another naming Philippe specifically 16 jan 1759; but definitely the present Jean Pierre, 26 apr 1747, Antoine Bourgeois, action against the heirs of Jean Pierre Guidroz).
There is some confusion about his children, which might be resolved by a careful reading of the lists of catechumens at Moudon. A child of "l'officier Guidroz" died in October, 1730, no further information is given in the death record. This cannot be the son Abraham Daniel, who was born in November of that year, but it could be one of the daughters, perhaps Marguerite Estienne. There are no other deaths recorded for this family before 1764. There is a marriage record for a daughter Marie Louise, but no corresponding baptism, and assuming the death record of October, 1730 does in fact refer to this family, we must be missing at least two more baptisms.
