There is a marriage at Montreux, 29 jan 1615, for Jaques Masson of Vernez to Louise Mayor of Clarens. Among the children of these parents, there is a Pernette baptised 21 sep 1617 (the sponsors included her grandfather Pierre Masson and an aunt Marie Masson), but this Pernette would have been 54 years old if she were the mother of the last child of David Basin and Pernette Masson born in 1671. Since there does not seem to be another Masson with a wife Louise Mayor, it is possible that the Pernette born in 1617 died and was succeeded by a second Pernette, daughter of Jaques Masson of Vernex, 30 dec 1632, the name of the mother not given. The first appearance of an appropriate Pernette Masson as a sponsor for a baptism is in 1648. Since single females often first appear as sponsors for baptisms shortly after their first communion (signifying that they have reached a marriageable age), this is very likely the Pernette who was born around 1632. Also missing from the list of children for Jaques Masson and Louise Mayor is Pernette's uncle Claude Masson, mentioned in the records of the notaries. Completing the discrepancies is the fact that the notaries say that Claude Masson, Pernette's uncle, was from Tavel, while the Jaques Masson we found in the church records was from Vernex.

Her parentage is not given in a marriage record, since there is a long gap in these records at Montreux before 1665. However, in the records of the notary Daniel Dubochet of Montreux (ACV DS 24/2), there is a transaction dated 03 feb 1665 in which Egrère David Basin, Curial du Châtelard, appears in the capacity of guardian of Louise Mayor, his mother-in-law. It seems very likely that Louise Mayor (presumably of Clarens) was the mother of Pernette Masson.
This is confirmed in a settlement dated 08 aug 1663 (Jean Pierre Besson, notary, ACV DS 5/1 fol. 64), in which Pernette Masson, widow in her first marriage of the late Pierre Francey of Vernex, with assistance of her present husband David Basin, her mother Louise Mayor, and her uncle Abel Mayor, and Claude Masson of Tavel her brother, reach an agreement concerning her assets and those of her two daughters by the late Pierre Francey, represented by their guardian Abraham Blanc of Salles. Further, there is a statement in other records of the same notary (DS 5/2 fol. 205v, 18 jan 1702, and elsewhere) that Louise Basin, daughter of the late David Basin and wife of Egrège Abraham Martin has a "beaufrère" (brother-in-law) Jean Rodolph Dufour, Lieutenant and Capitaine of a company in the service of Their Excellencies of Bern. Since Jean Rodolph Dufour had married Susanne Francey, the conclusion that Pernette Masson was her mother as well seems inescapable; Susanne Francey and Louise Basin would be half-sisters.
Before this settlement, 28 may 1663, Pernette appears as the widow of Pierre Francey, as a sponsor for a baptism at Montreux. Because she is identified as a widow on this occasion, it seems safe to assume that she had not yet remarried. Her second marriage must have occurred between May and August, 1663.
There does not seem to be a Masson family at Tavel, and we have to wonder if this information is an error in the church registers, or if this Claude Masson had only recently settled at Tavel. If we can set this information aside, the obvious solution appears to be Jaques Masson of Vernex who married Louise Mayor on 29 jan 1615 (however, this marriage is in a section of ACV Eb 85/1 where a few pages seem to have been collated incorrectly, so the year might be questioned). This Jaques Masson, or another man of the same name also from Vernex, had baptised additional children as early as 1606, but the name of the mother of those children is not known.
Additional transactions concerning the finances of Louise Mayor are found in the minutaires of the same notary, Jean Pierre Besson. ACV DS 5/7 contains a transaction dated 10 jan 1668 in which David Basin authorizes a sale on behalf of his mother-in-law Louise Mayor, widow of the late Jaques Masson of Vernex, assisted by Abel Mayor the elder of Clarens and Claude Masson of Tavel her councillors—and with the same duly authorized, David Basin purchases the property as the highest bidder. A further transaction is found in ACV DS 5/8, dated 15 jan 1669, very messy and damaged, but naming the same persons. These records place the death of Louise Mayor after 1669, and allow a more certain identification of her brother Abel Mayor.
