Also known as "Perret" or "Perry". Although we have never found Perret as a given name in the official church records in Switzerland, many of the immigrants from the area around Montreux and Blonay who had been baptised as Pierre are called Perret in family records in Switzerland Co., Indiana.
A François Dupraz, age 32, from Switzerland, was among the passengers on the ship Poland, arriving at New York from Le Havre 23 sep 1833.
On 25 oct 1836, "J. J. P. Schanck" came before the probate court in Switzerland Co., Indiana and requested letters of administration for the estate of Peter Francis Dupraz, late of said county. David Gaudin gave his oath that "fifteen days had fully passed since the death of the said Peter Francis Dupraz." At the February, 1837 term of the same court, Pierre "Cisar" (César) Dupraz, with approval of the widow Louisa Dupraz, was appointed guardian of Peter Francis Dupraz, son of the the late Peter Francis Dupraz under the age of 14. From this, we might guess that Pierre César was a brother of Pierre François senior.
Although the evidence is not as conclusive as we might wish, we tentatively identify the present Pierre François Dupraz with the one baptised at La Tour-de-Peilz 05 jul 1801, son of Pierre César Dupraz of Blonay and his wife Marie Marguerite Rossire. The same couple baptised a son Pierre César at Blonay 23 sep 1790.
The elder Pierre César Dupraz at Blonay was the son of Jean Abraham. Jean Abraham also had a son Claude François who baptised another Pierre César in 1786. Claude François apparently did not have a son Pierre François. However, the civil registration records for Blonay, beginning in the middle of 1821, have not yet been checked.
