At first, we assumed the 1609 marriage of François Rouge to Jeanne "Morel" involved an otherwise unknown son of the elder François. The testament of Jeanne Morlot in 1618 (David Savary, notary) establishes that she was the second of wife of our François Rouge, as she names some of her step-children among her heirs. The death date of François must be between 1613, the last reference to property under his name in notarial records, and 1617, when a when a reference to Jeanne his widow is found.
In the 1570's - 1590's, we find references to François Rojoz, hoste. Eventually, we realized he is the same person as our François Rouge. Records of Jaques Girod, notary at Payerne 1584-1599, contain many references, first as François Rojoz, bourgeois de Payerne, who buys various parcels of land. A document of 11 apr 1589 has Rojoz buying La Maison de la Croix Blanche de Payerne from the heirs of the late François Robin of Yverdon (likely a son of Jean Robin, apothecary of Orbe in 1520, Banneret of Yverdon in 1532, and apparently a very wealthy man), and thereafter he is styled "hoste" by this notary. The same records contain documents that mention Catherine Rojoz, daughter of the late Louis of Corcelles. Catherine had married David son of the late Claude Jani. There is also mention of Jacquette Rojoz, "belle-mère" of David Jani, who would thus be either the mother of Catherine (appearing, contrary to the usual custom, under her married name) or else the step-mother of David Jani, logically the second wife of Claude Jani and presumably the sister of Louis Rojoz.
In the same minutaire, we find proof that Rojoz is indeed Rouge: in a document concerning rental of cows, we find a "vache de poil rojoz" (a red cow), and elsewhere "de poil roje". Rojoz is simply a dialectic form of rouge.
The parentage of François is established by documents of Jean Amey Bondu, notary at Payerne, Registre 1, fol. 52, where François Rojoz son of the late Jehan Rojoz buys property from François Moustaz, 26 mar 1574. However, there is considerable doubt as to which of the Jean Rojoz/Rouge this is. The references to our François so far do not identify Jean as a citizen of Payerne or Corcelles, so we tend to think he is not a descendant of Anthoine Rojoz of Corcelles. He might be the same Jean Rojoz from Faucigny who appears a few times in the mid-1500's, but there is as yet no proven connection. In the same register, fol. 57, same date, François is called "hoste de la Maison de la Ville de Payerne".
There are a few mentions of an Isaac Rouge whose daughter Marie married in 1639 at Payerne. Was this Isaac another son of François, or does he represent one of the other Rouge families in the area?
The Hôtel de la Croix Blanche, said to be the oldest establishment of its kind in Payerne, is still in business.
In 1589, François gave his wife title to property received as part of the marriage settlement, valued at 4,000 écus, a remarkable sum. By the reckoning of the time, 4,000 écus would translate to something approaching 30,000 florins, one of the largest sums we have ever encountered in similar documents. The document mentions a number of vineyards, apparently purchased after their marriage using his wife's funds.

There are abundant documents concerning the estate of Jean Rouge of Corcelles-près-Payerne, but these records only mention his three daughters. Further, none of the records mentioning our François Rouge show any connection with these daughters, nor with Corcelles.
