Not listed among children of Jacobe Gachet in her testament of 1584, so evidently Daniel had already died, or else he was a child by the first wife of Pettermand Planche, who turns out to be Anne Nible, daughter of the notary Benoit Nible by his first wife Benoitte du Moulin. Unless Anne was unable to bear children, we would have expected several more, but have found no other mentions of addition heirs of Pettermand Planche.

Also as Gaspard de la Planche, de la Planchit, etc. Testament of Johannes Grissod dated the Saturday before Palm Sunday 1508 indicates that Gaspard's wife was Grissod's daughter. The testament identifies the daughter as "_____ uxor gaspardi de laz planchiz de lustrie filie sue bendilecte", thus implying that the Planche family originated in Lutry. There are other references to the same effect, but the name of Gaspard's daughter has not been found.
While the connection to Lutry is clearly stated, we find earlier mentions of a family de la Planchit at Payerne in the early 1400's (Pierre de Treyvaux, notary at Payerne). We begin to suspect that our Gaspard, or perhaps his unknown father, was originally of Corcelles, but acquired bourgeoisie of Lutry, perhaps by a strategic marriage to one of the noble families there. The earliest mention is one Ottheti de la Planchit (1409), whose son was Nicodetus de la Planchit. Ottheti was alive (loaned money to someone) in 1410. Probably more significant is a sale of land at Payerne among Pierre Guignard and his children, 27 jul 1498 (Pierre Ruerat, notary at Payerne, ACV DP 92/1), in which the property is said to be bounded by "terram heredes quondam Anthoneii de la Planchy quam tenet Johannes Grissod ab occidente". That is, property now held by the heirs of the late Anthoine de la Planchy, previously held by Johannes Grissod. Was Anthoine perhaps the father of Gaspard?
At Lutry, we find in 1525 several mentions of Martin de Planchit of Lutry acting on behalf of his nephews Gaspard and Guillaume, sons of the late Gaspard de Planchit. These two sons would thus be under the age of majority, and so born after 1500. Jean Planche of Payerne is named in these documents as another nephew of Martin, but acts on his own, and so is evidently born before 1500. From these documents, it is still not clear whether the family originated in Lutry or in Payerne. No later mention of the two minor sons has been discovered, so it may be that they died soon after the settlement of the estate of the elder Gaspard. These citations give us confidence that an earlier citation, N. Rodolphe Chalon, notary at Cully, dated sabbati post festum Beati Johannes Baptiste (June 24), 1517, concerning a debt (previously?) contracted between Gaspardo de Planchia with the late Aymon Sordet (father of the notary of the same name active at this time) does actually refer to our Gaspard. Finally, in the inventory of the communal archives of Lutry, there is mention of an an abstract of the testament of Gaspard de la Planche, dated 1513.
There are several references to Grissod and Grysod (perhaps the same family) in the vicinity of Lutry, but so far no connections have emerged that would clarify the relationship with the Planche family.
One intriguing mention is in the context of a dispute roughly 1420-1422 between the ecclesiastical and civil authorities at Payerne. Maxime Reymond's article "L'Abbaye de Payerne" (Revue historique vaudoise, 1912-1913) includes the information that on 19 feb 1421, the council of Payerne gathered at the house of belonging to the heirs of Jean Planche, at Corcelles, to map their strategy to deal with the pretentions of the Prior of the Abbey over the civil government of Payerne. Proof that such a family was in Corcelles! (Reymond gives the citation "A. C. V. Nouv. titres, 2717.")
Another interesting citation was provided by Edmond Ischi, historian of Payerne, citing published extracts by Béranek, of a document dated 25 apr 1544: "Gaspar Plancherel doit pour lui au dernier nommé Jaquet Henry Jan, tant comme gouverneur, 9 florins petits ŕ cause d'achat de blé..." This extract suggests that the surname Plancherel might be, or might at least occasionally have been considered, as synonymous with Planche, and that the passage might refer to Gaspard, son of the present Gaspard Planche. But most citations of Plancherel cannot be matched with any member of the Planche family, and we think the name pertains to a different family.
The Planche family at Payerne owned several pieces of property at Lutry, subject to the former priory of Lutry. The terrier ACV Ff 166 contains a number of mentions of this family. For example, in a reconnaissance by Pierre Planche of Payerne (fol. 193v, 22 mar 1620), one of the properties was previously recognized, in the time of the commissaire Jehan Gignilliat, by Eg. Michel Franceois citoyen de Lausanne, acting as procureur for Catherine fille de Nicod Gillard relicte de Discret Gaspard de la Planche, and before that (in a terrier compiled by Pierre Marchand, not yet identified) by the said Gaspard de la Planche. The terrier compiled by Jehan Gignilliat must date from about 1540, based on some of the more famous people who were mentioned in it, and then cited in Ff 166 circa 1620. The terrier by Pierre Marchand must date from approximately a generation earlier, likely around 1500. If these earlier terriers still exist, we may be able to supply some of the missing information in the Planche genealogy.
The first terrier by Pierre Marchand to come to our attention is ACV FF 32 bis (dates from 1502-1512), which unfortunately is incomplete. It does, however, mention Martin and Gaspard de la Planche several times, alternating with references to apparently the same properties that had belonged to the children of Nicod de la Planche, suggesting strongly that Nicod de la Planche was the father of Martin and Gaspard. No other members of this family appear to be mentioned, and many or perhaps all of the properties had since been acquired by others, particularly Johannes Reys of Fribourg. Based on the very suggestive context, as well as the presence of Nicod de la Planche in documents in the communal archives of Lutry circa 1472, we show Gaspard and Martin as sons of Nicod.
A piece of evidence we consider almost conclusive is a coincidence in the location of property at Lutry. A document dated 05 nov 1472 (AVLutry Bleu K 264, probably related to a document with a similar description and identical date, Bleu E 204) grants Nicod de la Planche property held by the city of Lutry, "une moille Sur le Cręt de Nyallin", on condition that he have it under cultivation within 9 years. A document of 01 jul 1518 in the same archive (AVLutry K 295) is a "reconnaissance" for apparently the same property ("une moille En Nyallin") by Gaspard Delaplanche. By 1518, this would almost have to be the younger Gaspard. These documents have not yet been examined. The "reconnaissance" of 1518 can be expected to recount the history of the property, and should indicate the relationships and possibly other details.
