Owen was a beautiful baby with dark hair and big brown eyes. The doctors said it was unusual for a baby to be born with brown eyes--usually they are blue and change to brown later.
Owen had a great imagination. I remember when he was about 4 years old, he had an imaginary friend named Mrs. Canny. She lived in our garden and had several children. She was great company for Owen. At about that time, during the presidential elections, The Republican team was Dewey & Stassen; Truman was running for the Democrats. Owen would stand up on a stump in the back yard and announce, "I'm Dewey Stassen!" He would make up great stories about, for instance, the time an airplane got stuck up in the sky and they had to send a tow truck up to pull it down. He was awfully cute. He was also a "little brother." There was the time when he poured my favorite perfume in the ear of my sleeping cousin Joyce.
We moved to Seattle about the timeOwen entered Kindergarten. Mom went to a PTA meeting and came home with the most amazing news for Owen--the President of the PTA was Mrs. Canny. Of course, by then, he'd outgrown his imaginary friend, but it was pretty amazing anyway.
Owen went through Bryant, Nathan Eckstein, & Roosevelt High School. He was very interested in radio-controlled airplanes and built several of them and flew them in competitions. After graduation, he got a job at the Bremerton Naval Ship Yards. He did very well there & then decided to apply to the University of Washington for the next year. As a part of his tuition, he fixed up his car (a Fiat Spider) to sell. He was checking it out prior to selling it, when he had the accident that cost him his life. He was not speeding--it was road conditions, weather, and the fact that he was not wearing his seatbelt (unusual for him) that the accident was fatal.
Until that time, we had all felt quite invulnerable and immortal. It was a terrible blow to all of us and to his many friends. I often wonder what he would be like, and if I would have nieces or nephews, & what it would be like to grow up with a sibling. I miss him very much, & I know my parents never got over the loss.

Peter & Lucretia (Burr) Case lived in Virginia (now Hampshire Co. W.VA) in early 1800. They owned property (for which I have copies of deeds of purchase & sale) and had a sawmill. William Case (brother?) joined him in 1803. Peter was on the tax rolls through 1815 and William through 1814. In 1812 & 13, William & Peter were jointly assessed for four horses & three polls (presumably the two of them and a youth over 16 in Peter's household). In the 1810 census, Peter was 45 with ten persons under 26 in his household. Therefore, he was probably born around 1770. He disappears from the tax rolls ca 1816, at age 46 approx.
Peter & Wm purchased land in 1813 from Joel Volverton & sold that land approx. 1 year later to James & Samuel Larrimoor. On July 22, 1815, Peter & Lucretia, Stephen Huff & His wife Hannah (Lucretia's sister) sold land inherited by Lucretia & Hannah from their father, Thomas Burr, to Amos Polland. This land was on the drain of the South Branch (Potomac?). All parties except Stephen Huff signed by their (X) mark. In 1814 Peter purchased land from William Case, on the waters of the Little Cacaphon. This same land had been conveyed to William by S. Case (dec.) and his wife Mary of Culpepper Co., WV by a deed of bargain & sale dated Dec. 1, 1807
Peter & Lucretia had several children, including my 3rd great-grandfather Othaniel (b. ca. 1790 d. 1826) & Jacob (b. 1794 per Pansilee Larson). According to information submitted by Thomas Peter Case (my great-grandfather) to the Erastus Case Papers at the Connecticut Historical Society in 1914, there was also a son Leonard who remained in WV while the rest of the family moved west--probably to Ohio; and a daughter who married a man named Cummings, her grandson was Albert Baird Cummings, b. 1850, and became the governor of IA. As yet, I have found no evidence concerning Leonard or the daughter.
The following statement appears in ref. #22 "History of Portage Co., OH, Paris Twp. p. 507: "The first frame dwelling-house was erected in 1823 by Gains A. H. Case in 1823, at the Center, and it still stands there, but was removed from its original place some years ago. In 1827 William CASE commenced keeping tavern at the Center, but he died the following year, when the business was continued by his widow, who, in 1832, married again. 'Aunt Cretia' as she was called, was a very strong-minded woman, and a zealous champion of General Jackson & Democracy. She used to say that, "Although my husband is dead, thank God he lived to vote for 'Old Hickory.'" Was lucretia Peter's widow and married William after Peter died?
Lucretia shows up in the 1830 census, Portage Co., Paris Twp. LUCRETIA CASE: (P. 234, Roll 138,M19) 1 f 60-70 (b. 1760-70--Peter was presumably born in 1770), 1 m. 20-30 (b. 1800-1810). Probably Peter's Widow.
