He was a strong advocate of the Reformation at Bern, and participated in a number of the negotiations connected with the establishment of the Reforms at Lausanne as well. He was Landvogt at Erlach, 1529 (another source says he was appointed to that post in 1531, we have not tracked down the original sources), member of the high council in 1537, bailli at Aigle in 1539 (or 1538?), and was appointed bailli of Gex, 1547. He turned down this last appointment and remained in Bern until his death. He was a member of the commission that traveled through the conquered Pays de Vaud in 1537 to inventory the property that had previously belonged to the church, and that established the Académie de Lausanne. In 1538 he was named gouverneur at Aigle.
His testament dated 22 sep 1552 does not name his children, but it does mention his last wife Agnes Lerber and refers to the terms of their marriage contract. With enough searching, the marriage contract could probably be found among the records of the notaries of Bern. He was married at least four times, according to the von Mülinen genealogies at the Burgerbibliothek of Bern, which, however, are sometimes in error. The genealogy suggests that he was married previously to the first known wife. There seems to be no list of his children.
Marriage of Hans Huber and Agnes, widow of Anthoni Noll, from the church records at Bern.

Barbara Huff may have been the sister of Mary Ann Huff, wife of Reuben P. Smith, Othaniel's half brother. A Reuben W. Huff in 1860 and 1870 censuses of Ringgold Co., IA may be their brother (he was b. 1825, IN).

Believed to be daughter of either O. Huff or Henry Huff, both apparently from Indiana (the former by way of MO). Clarke Co., IA marriages show Othaniel Case (half-brother of Reuben Plummer Smith) m. Barbara Huff 23 nov 1854, suggesting Barbara was Mary Ann's sister. This information may help locate Mary Ann's parents in the 1850 census. Mary Ann's parents were born in KY and IN, according to 1920 census.
[6064] information from descendant Les Smith, Bremerton WA, and History of Whatcom Co., WA says 09 apr 1836, Boone Co., IA. However, cemetery record gives date shown, which is consistent with census records and her pension application.
[6065] Obituary from descendant Les Smith, Bremerton, WA
[14821] Date from Les Smith, no place indicated. Probably occurred in Clarke Co., IA, where couple is found in 1860 census.

It is not known how family identified O. Huff as the father of Mary. May gave her birthplace as Boone Co., IA in a pension application of 1924.
[6067] Present in Clark Co. IA 1860 census p 94 # 639, two families of this surname. There are 4 children and what appears to be 2nd wife, initials only. Also a Henry Huff, initials only.
