Jesse Hildreth died in 1859 and when the 1860 census was taken, Mary Ann was living with her daughter, Elizabeth, whose 2d husband was Almus L. Roundtree. Rubottom children in the household were from Elizabeth's first marriage.

The Fresno Expositor, Fresno, CA, 13 Feb. 1884,
There died at the residence of Supervisor Henry C. Daulton, in the northern part of this county, on the 4th inst., a woman of considerable note -- Mrs. Mary Ann Hildreth. Her maiden name was Talbot, and she was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 18( ) and at the age of fifteen, was united in marriage to Jesse Hildreth, then a promising young man, who had served with distinction in the war of 1812. They first settled in Kentucky but subsequently emigrated to Missouri. Eleven children was the result of their union, all of whom grew to manhood and womanhood. Three of the children are at present residents of _________ viz: Thomas Hildreth, Mrs. L. B. Ralls, and Mrs. H. C. Daulton. When the "gold fever" broke out, they started for California, arriving here early in 1849. They settled in Los Angeles, near the old Mission San Gabriel, where he died about the year 1860. Mrs. Hildreth was a kind, noble-hearted lady, and her charities were dispensed with an unstinting hand. The infirmities of age rendered her almost helpless during the latter years of her life, but she was kindly ministered to, and her wants provided for by the tender hands of affectionate relatives. Her body was interred at the Rea burying ground, near that of her daughter, Mrs. Jonathan Rea, and her son Emphrey J. Hildreth on the 6th inst. May she rest in peace. (Copy of obit obtained from B. A codicil was added on 9 Jan. 1832 and the will was proved on 2 April 1832, so Thomas Talbott died sometime between those dates.

There has been considerable speculation about Susan's surname. Squiers/Squires and Leach have been top contenders and Rhodes has also been suggested. Much more research will be necessary to determine her true surname.
Most of my information on the Talbott family was obtained from cousins Jean Cloud of Redwood City, CA and Barbara Van Vuren of Napa, CA. All of us descend from Jesse Hildreth who married Mary Ann Talbott. Our Hildreth lineage can be found in The Hildreth Family Association, Fifth Publication, 1984.
There were many Talbott families in early Maryland. Thus far, it has been impossible to find the link that would tie our branch of the family to an immigrant ancestor. The given name of Aquilla shows up in more than one of the Talbott families and the female names of Susan and Mary Ann were also quite common in Talbott lines.
May 2008: On Ancestry.com under early Maryland marriages is a Thomas Talbott to Susanna Rhodes on 15 April 1780. This is the only Thomas and Susan Talbott I have ever found.
Anyone wanting to pursue this Talbott family would do well to start with the inventory of sources previously searched by Barbara Van Vuren, included here as an aide to future research.

In his will, Thomas seemed to show more concern for his slaves than for his children. My feeling is that he was probably the father of these young slaves, with Dinah being their mother. Ages of the slaves, as given in the will: Benson, age 18; Solomon, 15; Louisa, 13; William & Catherine, 10; James, 5; David, 3; Molly, 6 mos. No age for Henry, who was apparently incapable of taking care of himself. All were to be set free by terms stated in the will.
