His name does not appear on the surviving tax lists of Greenland, NH (but first volume lost by fire). C. C. Whittier suggests he was the same William Uran who served as a private in the Snow Shoe Company under Capt. Domini Jordan of Falmouth, ME, 14 apr 1744.

[603] The whole family was baptized at this time, implying that no other record of their birth likely exists.

The William J. Uran of Cuming Co., NE looks very much like the son of Jonathan and Sally, but so does the William James Uran of Stearns Co., MN (1875) with wife Emily and children Frank b. 1871, Cora Ellen b. 23 jun 1872. However, Sally Haven Uran notes in a letter (1869) that William had not yet married, ruling out the William J. in the 1870 NE census. The identity of the latter is still not understood.

Co. B, 151st Indiana Infantry, enlisted 07 feb 1865 (where?), discharged 19 sep 1865 Nashville, TN.

The 1860 census of Greenfield Township, Warren Co., Iowa (p. 133) includes the Andrew Purcell family. Andrew had married Mary Ann Doak, widow of Royal Uran, in 1853. The children in this family include Royal's daughter Harriett, age 10 (though in fact she was age 12 at that time), plus the three children of Andrew and Mary Ann. Also in this household is a person whose name looks like James Man, age 27, born in New York. The handwriting is ambiguous enough that this person might actually be the present James Uran — the age and place of birth are correct for this interpretation.
