Estimated date of birth from the date of her last child whose date of birth is certain, but very likely she was born around 1515, based on the known date of birth for her first husband.
A long document of George Banquettaz, notary at Payerne, mentions her in the context of a complicated list of people who have inherited from the late Esperance Blan, daughter of the late Guillaume Blan and Elizabeth Dethuerie (the latter the daughter of the late Jean Dethuerie and the late Marie Chantallet) (ACV PD 6/1, 02 jan 1571). Perhaps Marie Chantallet was an aunt of Françoise. Jean Dethuerie can be identified with the notary Jean de Thury or Dethueriez (or in Latin, Johannes de Thuriaco) whose records survive from 1543-1547 (FHL microfilm #0998009). This notary is further identifed as the son of another notary of the same name who must have died before 1536 (ACV Aa 12/4, copy register associated with the "Inventaire Blanc").

Probably the son of the Johannes Chantallet whose testament of 26 jun 1518 contains ecclesiastical donations and is preserved at the archives of Payerne (G 8). Oddet is cited in 1543 as a member of the council of Payerne.
He appears as the object of a donation by Amédée Andrion, apothecary and bourgeois de Genève, 23 feb 1525 (Claude Compois, notary), at which time he is noted as alias Gronod, bourgeois de Payerne (at Payerne, the alias is Gurrivoz—perhaps the spelling in Geneva is simply a misunderstanding of this name). In this transaction, Andrion conveys to him a debt of 140 florins, 15 sols, part of a larger sum due from Jaques son of Pierre Caval of the parish of Grissung, diocese of Aosta (recorded by Varin Pierre Lustreni, notary of Ayax, 13 may 1520). The transaction is witnessed by Jean Chevroz bourgeois de Payerne (Chantallet's father-in-law), Jean Michel, banneret de Payerne, and Eg. Henri Aubert, notary of Geneva. The relationship between Andrion and Chantallet, if any, has not been discovered.
An earlier Oddet "de Gruyera alias Chantallet" made a testament in 1491 at Payerne (cited in the inventory of the city archives).
There is a document relating to Jaquetus de Gurivoz alias Chantallet and his wife Anthonia daughter of the late Petrus de Sarvin, all at Payerne or perhaps Corcelles, dated 05 oct 1457 (ACV Aa 12/4, no. 582). The alias Gurivoz is spelled many different ways in this and similar documents. A later document (1479) in the terrier ACV Fm 52 mentions Oddet Chantallet son of Jaquetus. It is feasible but still very uncertain that the Oddet Chantallet who made his testament in 1491 was the same son of Jaquetus, and that this is the Jaquetus whose wife was Anthonia de Sarvin.
She is also called Anne, when she appears as a sponsor for a baptism at Badonvillers, 06 nov 1569.
Very likely she was a relative, if not the daughter of the prévôt Nicolas Chapelier, whose epitaphe at the church of Gerbéviller, before 1569, is cited as follows (Henri Gelin, "Inscriptions Huguenotes", BSHPF 43:199-223):
If Nicolas Chapelier had really functioned as "bon serviteur" for a period of 60 years, he must have been well over 70 when he died. He would have been from the generation before Annon Chapellier (from the dates of her children, she was probably born in the 1530's). It is entirely plausible that Nicolas had served for many years as Prévôt, and that his son-in-law Martin Gerberon became his successor in this office. The date of the inscription has not been determined, but it must prior to the death of Olry du Châtelet, May, 1569, at the battle of La Charité-sur-Loire, on the side of the protestant forces, and it must also be after the marriage of Olry to Jeanne de Scépeaux, 1555. The three Seigneurs under which Nicolas Chapelier served would have been Hue de Châtelet and his wife Magdelaine Wisse (who inherited the seigneurie of Gerbéviller), their son Pierre du Châtelet and his wife Bonne de Bandoche (or Baudoche?), and in turn, their son Olry.
Baptism of child of Samuel Chapin, 1626; the given name ending in "in" is assumed to be that of his daughter, Katherine.
Date and place of birth given in this work differs from earlier sources..saying she was born 6 April 1630 at Paignton, Devonshire, England....which could be an error. That is the date given for her being named in her grandfather's will.
Catherine was named for her mother's sister, Catherine Penney, who was baptized at Paignton 30 Sep. 1599.
Doubtless the daughter whose name is illegible except for the last two letters, "in", who was baptized at Berry Pomeroy in 1626. Her grandfather, Henry Penny, in his will of 1630, bequeathed to her 12d. She came to New England. (Her name spelled with Katherin in this article).
Date of marriage could have been 30 Jun or 1 July 1655.
Catherine, the 2d wife of Samuel Marshfield.
Married third, Samuel Marshfield of Springfield, who died 8 May 1692. She survived him about twenty years, dying at Springfield 4 Feb. 1712/3. She was mother of four children by each of her three husbands.
She married 2) 30 June 1655, Thomas Gilbert, who died in 1662; she married 3) 28 Dec. 1662, Samuel Marshfield, who died in 1692. She had four children by each husband.
Shows date of marriage as 20 Nov. 1646, at Springfield, MA.
Catherine Chapin married first, at Springfield, 20 Nov. 1646, Nathaniel Bliss, who died 8 Nov. 1654.

Roger Chapyn, of Totnes, co. Devon, was born probably before 1540, as he had a daughter baptized at Totnes in 1560. The name of his wife is unknown, but she survived him and was living 9 Sept. 1590, "widdo Chapinne."
Marriage date assumed from date of birth of first child.
[13635] "The Puritan", St. Gaudens' statue, in figure and costume is intended as an ideal of Deacon Samuel Chapin as given by tradition current among his descendants for there is of his face and features no oral or written record in existence. Supposedly a copy of this statue is in Central Park in New York City.
From a transcript of the records of the Parish of Paignton, England.
Samuel Chapin, Deacon of the Church at Springfeild, died the 11th day of November 1675.
