Birth information inserted into McDougall bible record, evidently the bride of Joseph as shown here, and the several later children plausibly theirs.

Duncan married twice, first to Anna McDougal whose family also immigrated to America with Captain Campbell in June 1739, and secondly to Mrs. Agnes McCoy, née McIntyre; he lived in Argyle, New York, until his death. He raised his family on the land his father Donald had received in the Argyle Patent. Duncan was elected Roadmaster at the first town meeting of Argyle on April 2, 1771. He also served as tithemaster and as a private in the Charlotte County Militia during the Revolutionary War. After the Allen and McCrea massacres during the Revolutionary War people fleeing Argyle for the safety of Fort Edward used his house as a resting place. His house was also used, or abused, by Indians who tore up his floor searching for valuables. Duncan died in Argyle on October 15, 1791. He left no will, so his four sons agreed to make a fair distribution of his property, Lot 131 of the Argyle Patent, among themselves and their five sisters.
Son Allen married Amy Brown and lived in North Hudson, New York and in Canada until about 1808. They then moved to Dryden, Tompkins County, New York where they stayed until about 1821 when they returned to North Hudson where Amy died. Allen then married Sarah Culver of Saratoga, New York, and they lived near Dryden until about 1842 when they moved once again, this time to Caton, Steuben County, New York. Allen passed away there on January 12, 1872 at the age of nearly 100. Allen was always engaged as a farmer.
Daughter Effie married Nathan Durkee and lived in Northumberland in Saratoga County until her death in 1818. Daughter Margaret, also referred to as Elizabeth, married Francis DeLong who turned out to be the black sheep of the family. He was accused of serving both sides in the Revolutionary War. He was involved in a nasty plot with the British in which he lured some of his American soldier friends, including his brother-in-law, to a place where they were captured by the British and sent to prison in Canada. Early court records from the Argyle area indicate he was arrested for being drunk and disorderly. Another time he was fined for letting his horse tear up his neighbor's yard. After the Revolution he and Margaret (Elizabeth) moved to Canada.
Daughter Mary married John Peterson who was one of the first members of the Argyle Presbyterian Church and served in the Revolutionary War in the Charlotte County Militia. He was the brother of Nathan who married Mary's sister Nancy and moved to Coburg, Canada for a time before moving to Illinois where they lived until the died.
Son John married Hannah Hennegen. He was a captain in the Saratoga County Militia and served in the 166th Regiment during the Revolutionary War. Following the war he settled in Canada where he was a farmer. Son David married Betsy McDowall, daughter of John and Euphamey Smith McDowall from Scotland. David was a farmer and a lumberman and lived in Saratoga Springs near Paradox Lake in Essex County. He drowned at the age of 51 while floating logs down the Hudson River. Daughter Betsy married John Hennegan, brother of Hannah Hennegen who married Betsy's brother John. After their married they moved to the Province of Hinchbrooke in Ontario, Canada.
Little is known about daughter Nancy. It is believed she and her husband Nathan died in Kane County Illinois, near Plato Center, about 40 miles west of Chicago. They were on the Kane County census of 1850 living with their son Duncan Peterson. Nancy was 80 and Nathan 83 at that time. There are no death or burial records for Kane County for that early period of time. Their daughter Harriet [Peterson] DeLong is buried in Bluff City Cemetery in Elgin, Kane County, Illinois, and it is possible that both her parents are buried there. No records or stones have been found.
Records show that John Lindsay and Nathan & Nancy [Lindsay] Peterson were in Coburg, Ontario, Canada at the same time.
[14878] Bride is listed as Nancy McDugall, both parties of Orange Co., born in Scotland.
