Surname listed variously as d'Alex, d'Alliez, etc. His wife left him (and her two children, after four or five years of marriage, according to one source) and went to live with her father in Neuchâtel, which occasioned a great scandal. At the time, Farel was in the ascendant there, and he was so insistent in his efforts to send Jeanne de Rive back to her husband, including writing to the minister Peter Kunz in Bern to ask for help from Their Excellencies, and in the end so publicly embarrassing the de Rive family that he wore out his welcome and had to take his crusades elsewhere.
Exactly what the problem was has not actually been stated. However, Claude d'Alliex was one of the nobles who formed the so-called Confrérie de la Cuiller, which attempted to keep Geneva under the control of its bishop and of the house of Savoie. When the troops of Bern marched on Geneva in 1536, in support of Geneva's bid for independence, they took time from their advance just long enough to burn the châteaux of the members of the Confrérie, and so it happened, according to the historian Abraham Ruchat (Histoire de la réformation de la Suisse, IV, p. 22), that "un livre infâme, qui enseignait toute sorte d'impuretés abominables" was found at the Châteaux du Rosay, home of Claude d'Alliex. Ruchat gives Stettler's chronicle (II, p.82) as one of the sources for this section.
As of 1973, the marriage contract was in the Archives Communales de Nyon (Orange C 1, Alliez, described in the "Fichier Médiéval" of the Archives Cantonales Vaudoises). The contract, dated 28 jul 1527, is for the marriage of noble "Claudium de Alladio, ex comitibus Sancti Martini" sire du Rosey, près Rolle, et de la Corbière, au diocèse de Genève, coseigneur de Vufflens-le-Château, fils de feu Bernard de Alladio, et noble Jeanne de Rive, fille de noble George de Rive, de Payerne, sire de Prangins, et d'Ysabelle de Vaumarcus, sa femme. It was signed dans l'église paroissiale de Payerne, en présence de dom Rodolphe "Benedicti", abbé de Saint-Jean d'Erlach, du sire de Senarclens, de François de Supersaxo, et de Claude, sire de Villardin.
