His dates need to be reviewed, as there is a possibility that there were two notaries of this name. His name is found in several forms: Stephanus, in Latin documents; Thievent, Thyvent, Tivent, Stivent, etc., and Estienne or even Estephane in French documents. The family name can be spelled in various ways as well, anything from Fileta to Filliettaz. While there are many citations that confirm the relationships of the notary Stephanus Filliettaz who died before 1525 with his son Mauricius and with his daughter Maria, we think "Janthon", mentioned in the church records, may in fact be the son of a later Estienne.
In the terrier ACV Fh 153, fols. 742v to the end, a series of reconnaissances relates to fishing rights originally held by the Darnex (D'Arnex) family at Aubonne, which by 1508 (Fh 137, fol. 879v, not yet photographed) were held jointly by Jean Filliettaz, Guilliaume Champion, Arthaud Fontannaz, Jean Bergier, and Anthoine Ruddel. Among these reconnaissances in Fh 153, fol. 755v, is one dated 15 mar 1568, for Discret Estienne filz de feu Egrege Michiel Collat en son vivant bourgeois d'Aulbonne conceuz de Marie fillie de feu Egrege Estienne Filliettaz en son vivant bourgeois dudict Aulbonne par ledict Estienne faicte, acting with approval of his mother, referring to the same fishing rights. Notably, these rights had come to his mother "par legitime succession dudict feu Jean Filliettaz." Thus, Estienne Filliettaz was most likely a son of (this) Jean Filliettaz.
In the terrier Fh 144, fol. 510v, dated 19 feb 1529 Style of the Nativity, Venerabilis Jacobus de Fougia de Gimel cappellanus veluti tutor et administrator ac tutorio et administratorio nominibus Mauricii filii pupilli Egregii Stephanii Fillietaz de Gimel quondam burgensis Albone recognizes several properties that Stephanus Fillietaz had purchased from others. We can infer from this reconnaissance that Stephanus had already died, and that his son had not yet reached the age of majority, since he was represented by a "tutor". Even earlier, 21 feb 1525, the same Mauricius, represented by the same guardian, on this occasion identified as his uncle (there may have been a half-sibling relationship between the Fillietaz and de la Foge families of that generation), recognized another property subject to the Seigneur de Champvent (Fh 143, fol. 34v). However, there is a mention of a transaction recorded by Eg. Estienne Fillietaz in 1525 (apparently in January or early February ?), see Fh 149.
From the available sources, it seems virtually certain that Estienne Filliettaz died early in 1525. The earliest dates we have found for his work as a notary are in 1514 (Fh 153, fol. 77), and we found one citation where it appears that his son Maurice was custodian of his protocols, at least briefly, followed by Louis Challet, and finally by Michel Collat. However, it is not at all certain that any of these changes in custody relate to the death of the previous custodian. In Fh 161, in fact, the situation is certainly more complicated. On fol. 508, there is a reconnaissance dated 23 dec 1577 involving a certain rent deriving from the foundation of a chapel at Aubonne, by means of a document, "en l'instrument dedicte fondation par feu Egrege Estienne Fillietaz en son vivant bourgeois d'Aulbonne receu et stipulé, et par feu Noble Loys Challet de Perruys coadjuteur de feux Discret Mauris FIllietaz filz du susnommé feu Egrege Estienne Fillietaz, commissayre des prothocoles et registres de sondict feu pere soubscript et signé, en datte de l'an courant mille cincq centz dix huict et du tier jour du moys d'octobre" [03 oct 1518]. In this instance, Louis Challet seems to have had joint custody of the protocols of Estienne Filliettaz, and copied and signed the instrument in question, whose original date was 03 oct 1518.

His step-father (beau-père) is identified as Pierre Macheret of Nyon, 1578. However, it is just possible there are two men named Thievent Filletaz. There is also a Thievent Fuiellette alias de la Fauge who baptised a son Theodore 18 aug 1598, Morges. The present Thivent is officier de Gimel in 1609, still with wife Gabrielle. His first appearance at Gimel appears to be as a sponsor for a baptism in 1573, that record identifying him as the son of the late Jaques.
This is explained, somewhat, by some details gathered by Olivier Dessemontet for his genealogy of the Valier family (typescript and notes in the Archives Cantonales Vaudoises). Dessemontet, consulting the manuscript of the first church book of Gimel, was able to make out the marriage of Susanne Valier and Thievent de la Foge in 1583, with the accompanying notation that she had died in Morges in March, 1603. Only the microfilm of this register is now available to the public, and the names in this entry are virtually unreadable, except for "de la" and "Vallier". Dessemontet also noticed some information in the terrier ACV Fh 55, regarding a Thivent son of the late François son of the late Perrod de la Foge alias Filliettaz (reconnaissance dated 1629). He also noticed the baptism at Morges, 04 feb 1589, of Samuel son of "Thiven Fillete" and Susanne Valier. From this he supposed that Susanne had first married Thievent de la Foge and then later married Thievent Filliettaz. He does not seem to have noticed the baptism of 1598, for the son of Thievent Fuiellette alias de la Fauge, which, in any case, does not mention the name of the mother. It seems far more likely that the baptisms of Samuel and Theodore belong to the first (and only) husband of Susanne Valier, rather than to the husband of Gabrielle Dunand.
The problem that remains is to discover which of the two men was the father for the children where the baptisms do not name the mother. These are: Jean André, son of Tivent Filliettaz, at Gimel, 10 jan 1585; Claudine, daughter of Tyven Fillette, at Morges, 05 jan 1586; Jaques, son of Thyven Fillette, at Morges, 26 jun 1590; Anthoine, son of Thyven Fillete, at Morges, 07 may 1594; and Matthieu, son of Thivent Filletaz, at Gimel, 29 jun 1595. The simplest solution is to assign all of the unknown children at Morges to the Thievent who married Susanne Valier, and all those baptised at Gimel to the one who married Gabrielle Dunand. In other words, we could make the assumption that the one who was known as de la Foge alias Filliettaz was known as de la Foge in Gimel but Filliettaz in Morges, while the other one was known only as Filliettaz and remained in Gimel. But the same difficulty will inevitably have to be sorted out for the siblings of Thievent de la Foge, any or all of whom may sometimes have appeared under the alias Filliettaz.
