The surname is spelled variously at Bischwiller: Thuring, Tourang, Dürang — and the index prepared in 1905 by the notary Wundisch speculates that the name was originally Durand. However, there is also a Drouin family in the area, which would be equally difficult in German!
The same family can be detected in the records of Olwisheim and Lixheim, where they are either Düring or Durand, depending on whether the rest of the record was written in German or French.
Her name is given as Durand in the French Reformed congregation at Bischwiller, but Thuring or Tourang in the German Reformed congregation. She is called Anne Marguerite in one French record in 1680, and, so far inexplicably, Marguerite Bolenger on two other occasions.
[4265]
Recorded in the Eglise Réformée congregation.

[15330] George Byron Merrick, compiler, Merrick--Mirick--Myrick Family of Massachusetts (1636-1902) (Madison, WI: Tracy, — Pg 267 : It is not known to which of the Tilley families she belonged. While there is no mention of Tilley among the early settlers of Agawam, there were several families of the name near Agawam, all of whom were men of influence in the communities in which they lived, and prominent in the affairs of the colony. (Some researchers have claimed Elizabeth's lineage back to Howland and Tilley of the Mayflower, but there is no proof of same).
Daughter of the late Salomon Tilliant, in his lifetime inhabitant of Nyon.
