DUTOIT: A Family from Moudon, Switzerland

He appears along with his brother David Frossard, sons of Humbert Frossard, minister at Thierrens, in a document recorded by Isaac Dutoit, notary at Moudon (ACV DL 37/4). He is probably the Jean Pierre Frossard who married Susanne Burnand. The Burnand genealogy asserts that Susanne Burnand's husband was the son of Pierre Frossard and Marie Burnand, making Susanne and her husband first cousins, a prohibited degree of consanguinity at that period. On the other hand, if Baltazard Burnand and Marie Burnand were actually the children of different mothers (Françoise Dutoit and Marie Dutoit), as some records suggest, the proscriptions against consanguinity could be read in such a way that their marriage would be permitted. However, we have not yet found Jean Pierre's baptism, and there are mentions of Françoise wife of Daniel Burnand as late as 1613, at a time when the Burnand genealogy says he wife should have been Marie Dutoit.
The solution is found in the marriage at Faoug, Jean Jaques son of Pierre Frossard, minister at Morat and bourgeois de Moudon, to Susanne daughter of Baltazard Burnand, bourgeois de Moudon. Apparently the Burnand genealogy had the name of Susanne's huband wrong, and then attached the fictitious Jean Pierre to the wrong father.

Her testament of 21 may 1736, with codicil 04 (?) jun 1737, was probated 19 jun 1737 identifies her husband as "Maître Philippe Dutoit taneur" (Jaques David Burnand, notary at Moudon). She names her four sisters and their husbands, and leaves the bulk of her estate to her husband. The document does not identify her parents.

She may have been Anne, rather than Jeanne. Otherwise, it is difficult to explain the marriage of Anne daughter of Michel Frossard to Pierre Rechoz, 23 apr 1598 (his second marriage). The other Michel Frossard, the notary, baptised his own daughter Anne in 1597.
