There was also a Louis Arnaud dit l'Espagnol who baptised children about the same time as François. This Louis was married to Catherine Pascal.

According to modern sources, the widely quoted birth date of 30 sep 1641 is incorrect. He was the famous pastor who led the Vaudois refugees back into their valleys in the Piedmont in 1689. His story, which has been translated into many languages and still widely quoted, was published under the title Histoire de la glorieuse rentrée des Vaudois dans leurs vallées (Cassel: 1710), but the authorship of this work is now credited to Vincent Minutoli. Many details of his story have since been revised as a result of modern scholarship, but none of the new information detracts from the sheer audacity of the remarkable exploits of 1689.

Document of 08 jul 1734, Isaac Guibaud notary, has Marguerite Arnaud widow of the late Pierre Richard, tanner, acting for her daughter Marguerite Richard, still a minor, with advice from Pierre Marset (=Marcel) her nephew (cousin crossed out), Jean Paul Bernard her nephew, and Louis Francillon, regarding a tannery behind the Rue du Pré. It is likely only the last 2 of the children survived their father, for a document prepared the day after his death says he left these two daughters (Isaac Guibaud, notary, 27 oct 1723).
[3007]
Marguerite Arnaud veuve de Pierre Richard, tanneur, aagé d'environ 60 ans.

Date of contract referenced 25 mar 1718 in document of Isaac Guibaud, notary.

Her testament was probated (at Morges?) 19 jan 1746 (ACV Bg 18/1, fol. 1, not yet examined). She was "copropriétaire" of the seigneurie of Chamblon, part of the parish of Champvent, near Yverdon, as of 18 feb 1741 (Jean Pierre Meunier, notary at Grandson, register 2, p. 106, not yet examined). Presumably this connection explains the presence of her daughter Susanne Gabrielle at Yverdon in the 1750's.
She was declared the heir of her mother Marie Catherine LeClerc 24 jun 1727 (ACV Bg 120/5 fol. 366, not yet examined).

He may have married Esther, daughter of Noble Bernard de Pesmes, as implied in an extract of a document recorded by Pierre Gaulis, notary, cited in the collection "Fichiers des pasteurs" at the Archives Cantonales Vaudoises. The original document, not seen, and its present location unknown, was dated 17 nov 1665.
