The genealogy of this family remains elusive, for lack of firm dates.
The copy registers of the Inventaire Blanc, for the district of Payerne, include an item (ACV Aa 12, no. 629, dated 23 apr 1478), noting that Johannes and Humbertus dou Ruz, brothers, habitants of Payerne, were the sons of the late Nicodus du Ruz "Devorea", which should probably be interpreted as Ivrea, in the Piedmont of Italy. However, there was evidently at least one family of the same name already in the vicinity of Payerne in the late 14th Century.
A Nycodus du Ruz was noted as a citizen of Payerne in 1520 (ACV Dp 80, fol. 14v and 19v). Apparently the same Nycodus dou Ruz made a donation 08 aug 1521, when he was about to go to war ("bellum quo nunc iterus est"), made a donation in favor of his illegitimate daughter Francesia (Dp 16/1, inserted at fol. 389). After that, we know of no mention of Nicod still alive. By 1527, his widow Mermetta Chastron had remarried to Claudius Marchand, and she was acting as guardian for her daughter Benedicta (Dp 16/2, fol. 370v).

The 1870 census shows him as Silas, rather than Cyrus, with wife Josephine, living next door to his father, William C. Ryker, in Milton, Jefferson Co., Indiana, no children. Josephine is listed as age 19, the census day for 1870 was June 1, and the enumeration was dated 18 jul 1870.
In the 1880 census, Cyrus, age 35, widowed, is a "servant" or "farm laborer" with the Hughey family in Madison, Jefferson Co., Indiana, again, no children.
However, in Ripley County, Indiana Records: Obituaries of Ripley County (Violet Toph, 1969), vol. 2, p. 168, we found a notice for "Wilbur C. Ryker, son of Cyrus and Josephine Ryker was born at Manville, Ind. Dec. 25, 1872 and died at the Whitlatch Hospital at Milan, Ind. Oct. 23, 1949. Burial was in Salem Cemetery in Brown Tp. He never married. He left 2 brothers Clyde and Paul Ryker and 2 sisters Mrs. Margaret Henderson and Miss Mabel Ryker." We have not located Wilbur in the 1880 census, he may have been listed under a different surname living with a different family.

It is possible she is the same person as the widow of Jérémie Margueron, Judith Sechat. Neither Sachot nor Sechat are common surnames, so the similarity is highly suggestive.
