Marriage record notes he was son of Spectable Moyse de Molery, principal regent of the College of Lausanne. Elie's first known assignment was as schoolmaster at Moudon (1590-1595). Such posts were, for a time, given preferentially to ordained ministers who had not yet found a church assignment ("impositionnaires"). By 1600, he is cited at Moudon as being the minister at Montpreveyres. He also served at Montpreveyres, Payerne, and Ressudens. He was interested in astronomy and astrology, and edited and published several almanacs during the years 1587-1605 and probably later. He is the author of a chronicle of Payerne (1613), a work that might be helpful in understanding some of the political scandals that had recently occurred (mentioned in the internet version of the Dictionnaire Historique de la Suisse). The "classe de Payerne" (the regional synod of ministers) cautioned him 07 jun 1608 to desist from publishing his almanacs, which they thought caused him to neglect his pastoral duties. He was eventually suspended from his post.
