Gibson papers note that Roger Reed (spelled Red) and John McDougall sold town and farm lots 95 of the Argyle Patent to John and James Mains 23 apr 1784. I have not located this transaction in the Washington Co. deed books or in the published NY land papers. (Is Mains an error for Mairs?) Fitch's #38 notes Roger Read was a tory, and moved after the Revolutionary War to Argyle Corners. "His son went away to Canada"...

In 1900 he is with his family in Boulder, CO, listed as a gold miner. Census records 1880, 1900, and 1920 indicate he was born in IL, not PA as family records say. Thus, it is not clear exactly when the William Reedy family came to Illinois.
