Notary at Cugy (on the route from Payerne to Estavayer-le-Lac, now in the Canton of Fribourg), later at Payerne. A long series of his notarial registers survives, beginning in 1512. The first pages of one of his registers (ACV Dp 16/1) give details of his marriage and his children. On at least two occasions he is described as the nephew of Jacob de Rive, who is known to be the son of Jean de Rive, presumably by his first known wife Perronete Mellet. However, this relationship has still not been explained.
It appears that not all of his children were recorded in his first register, for there is no record there of Françoise, who later married the physician Jean "Le Tissier" of Textor. Perhaps he had put aside his register Dp 16/1, and so did not record the births of his later children there. Jean Le Tissier notes in his testament of 1554 that Discret Jean Savary, notary, had married his sister-in-law Anna, presumably another unrecorded daughter of Pierre Chuard.
There is a mention in one of his registers (Dp 16/9, fol. 211, dated 26 sep 1556) of a second wife, Rosat (presumed to be a variant spelling of Rosaz).

Mandana Church was the sister of Lydia church, first wife of Martin Butts. Children of Mandana are listed in various county histories, but a son Edward Butts b. 1825 listed in a DAR application would have to belong to the first wife.
