An account in the Schw. Hist. Lexikon says: "Barnaud, Barthélemy, 1692-1747, von La Mure im Dauphiné, aus einer des Glaubens wegen nach Lausanne geflüchteten Familie. Pfarrer in Rossinières, 1725, in La Tour 1728-1747. Er weigerte sich, de Formel des Consensus zu unterzeichnen, Verfasser der Mémoires pour servir à l'histoire des troubles arrivés en Suisse à l'occasion du Consensus, 1726, ferner von Kommentaren zum neuen Testament."
Further, the article mentions Barthélemy Adam Louis Barnaud 1732-1775, nephew of Barthélemy, surgeon in Lausanne. Among his descendants were three ministers: Samuel Louis, at Bière, Commugny, and Etoy; Charles François Louis 1808-1864 at Apples; and Eugène 1840-1915, minister of the Free Churches in Coppet, Moudon, and Yverdon, and author of various occasional writings.
There is said to be a mention of Barthelemy and also a Judith Barnaud in La France Protestante, 1st. edition.
He defended his thesis at the Académie de Lausanne in 1717, and attended the Académie de Genève 1718-1719. At Lausanne, in 1722, he initially refused to sign the Consensus, but finally signed it in 1725. His famous Mémoires of 1726 were published by Bernard, Amsterdam. They include not only the story of the Consensus, but also the first published account of the insurrection and execution of Major Davel.
Among the evidence that establishes his parentage is the record of his first marriage at Vevey, which says he is the son of Mr. Jean Barnaud, marchand et bourgeois de Lausanne. The second marriage says he is the son of the late Mr. Jean Barnaud bourgeois de Lausanne.

This Jaques Barnaud is identified as father of Judith Barnaud who married Moyse Richard-Janin in 1672, La Mure, Dauphiné. We suppose that the Jaques Barnaud of Quêt who married Judith, daughter of François Archard of the same place at Nyon 18 oct 1695 was from a later generation, possibly a son of the first Jaques (this couple baptised a son Paul 23 may 1701 at Nyon).
Witnesses at the baptism include Jean François Genevois of La Mure.

Among other relationships, noted as uncle of Jeanne Richard widow of Pierre Marcel in documents of Isaac Guibaud, notary at Lausanne, 10 jan 1724 etc. Also as brother-in-law of Moyse Richard in a document of the same notary, 09 apr 1701. This couple appears (possibly before marriage) as the sponsors at the baptism of Catherine Richard-Janin, daughter of Moyse, 21 jul 1678, at La Mure. With his wife, sponsors at a Genevois baptism at Morges in 1690. Bourgeois of Lausanne 1701.
His testament of 19 sep 1730, with codicils of 02 jun 1731, 10 jun 1732, and 10 jun 1733, was probated at Lausanne 21 aug 1733 (ACV Bg 13bis/5, fol. 205v): Jean Barnaud (petit) bourgeois (bourgeois assouferté) de Lausanne, names his sister Jeanne Barnaud veuve de feu Benjamin Baud en derniere nopce, wife Magdelaine Genevois, eldest daughter Judith wife of Jean Genevois chirurgien, other daughter Jeanne Louyse wife of François Louys Secretan citoyen de Lausanne, son Barthelemy minister at La Tour, fille cadette Magdelaine femme en seconde nopce de Mr. le ministre Marindin (she had previously been married to Mr. le Ministre Nicolas), fils cadet Jean Alexandre Barnaud, granddaugher Judith Genevois, grandson Jean Alexandre Genevois, granddaughter Jeanne Magdelaine Secretan, grandson Barthelemy Abram Louys, son of Jean Alexandre Barnaud.

The record of the second marriage of his son Matthieu, 17 dec 1736 at Vevey, says he was from "Voruvan" en Dauphiné. This is probably a misunderstanding of Volvan. He must certainly be related to the Jean Barnaud who settled at Lausanne. This statement is confirmed by the baptismal record of his daughter Jeanne Louise 15 nov 1697, identifying him as Jean Barnaud of Volvan en Dauphiné, with wife Catherine Merin.
