Already deceased by 1812, when his son Salomon officially adopted the surname Victor in Pyritz, Prussia. From this fact we can infer that Salomon, and probably Wigdor before him, had citizenship at Pyritz. Very little seems to remain of the records of Pyritz, which is reckoned to be an extremely old town, though never large. The Jewish community seems never to have been very large, probably less than 5% of the total population. The largest reported size of the Jewish community that I was able to find was 325, in the 1860's. Records of the births, marriages, and deaths of the Jewish community of Pyritz for 1840-1847 have survived, as they were found to be inserted into the Lutheran church book duplicates for those years. The Archiwum Państwowe w Szczecinie, in Szczecin, Poland, has additional Jewish records for the years 1818-1819 (fond 92/0 Rejencja Szczecińska (Regierung Stettin)), and civil registration (which should include all denominations, including the Jews) for the years 1874-1911 (fond 639/0 Urząd Stanu Cywilnego w Pyrzycach (Standesamt Pyritz)). The following years are missing from the civil registration records: births: 1876, 1885, 1889, 1896-1897, 1900, 1904-1905, 1909; marriages: 1879, 1881, 1886, 1896-1897, 1900-1902, 1906-1907, 1909; deaths: 1875-1876, 1878-1882, 1884-1885, 1890-1891, 1893, 1895-1898, 1905-1906, 1908-1909, 1911. Historical documents have been collected by Salinger Gerhard, Zur Erinnerung und zum Gedenken. Die einstigen jüdischen Gemeinden Pommerns, published privately, New York City, 2006, 4 volumes (not examined, but extracts or transcripts from this work have been posted, apparently with transcription errors, on the Virtual Shtetl web site).

[10478] Elizabeth was the sister of Isaac Cook, an early pioneer and postmaster in Chicago. Information about the Cook family (which does not name Elizabeth) can be found in Charles Scribner's Dictionary of American Biography, 1934, pg 374. Correspondence from Susy Entenman of Hudson, OH, April 1978, included a photo of Mary (Cook) Dole, sister of Elizabeth, bearing a very strong resemblance to the photo in my possession of Elizabeth (Cook/Lane) Brock. [15651] Marriage date was estimated from the 1850 census, showing that the couple had a two year old child "A" (known to be Amanda).
