He left for England in 1693, and remained there for the rest of his life. By 1699, he was a member of a regiment of the Royal Cavalry. About 1704, he took the surnname Joyfull (a direct translation of the name Joyeuse connected with the Jaïn family since at least 1604), and at this time was in the corps of guards of Queen Anne. In 1720 (?) he is reported to have married "incognito", possibly a reference to the thriving fashion of "private", "secret", or "irregular" marriages, without the consent of parents if the bride was not of age, which were allowed in England up to 1753, when forbidden by the Marriage Act. By 1721, he lived in Church Street, St.Anne-Soho. By 1739, he had retired to Sevenoaks, Kent, where his wife died on October 8. By 31 may 1740, his nephew Benjamin, in Morges, had been informed of his death and dispatched someone to Sevenoaks to handle his affairs. The will of "Francis Joyfoull or Joyfull, Gentleman of Sevenoaks, Kent", dated 15 apr 1740 (old style — recall that Switzerland had already accepted the Julian calendar reforms in 1700) and proved the 28th of the same month, was probated at the Prerogative Court of Canterbury. The will mentions his late wife Martha, and further searching on the internet revealed her identity. He left bequests to his nephews and nieces, whose name is spelled in the will copy as "Jeyen" or similar (the original will might still exist and would be of interest).
The family archive contains a certification attesting to his citizenship and that of his brother at Morges:
L'an mille sept cent et deux et le vingt sixieme jour du mois de Juin, les Nobles, Vertueux, et tres honorés Seigneurs du Conseil de la Ville de Morges ont trouvés et recognus par leurs livres, que feu Monsieur Philippe Jayen a été receu Bourgeois du dit Morges, et qu'ils ont été payés de la ditte passation par le moyen d'un collocation à eux remise contre Monsieur le Justicier Jean Louys Catt du dit lieu, dont comme content et satisfait ils en tiennent et irrecherchable ses hoirs et leurs successeurs à perpetuitté par cette, pour foy de quoy le present acte a été accordé au Sieur Samuel Jayen son fils (quoyque le Sieur Jean François Jayen aussi son fils en aye deja tiré un), en Conseil au dit Morges sous le seau ordinaire de la dite Ville, et de la signature du Secretaire d'icelle le predit jour 26e Juin 1702. (The English translation of this document in The Jain Story is not very clear. The document says: "The year one thousand seven hundred and two and the twenty sixth day of the month of June, the Noble, Virtuous, and Most Honorable Seigneurs of the Council of the City of Morges have found and recognized according to their books that the late Monsieur Philippe Jayen had been received as a Citizen of the said Morges, and that they (the Seigneurs of the Council) were paid for the said legislation by means of a debt against Monsieur the Justice Jean Louis Catt of the said place transferred to them (the Seigneurs of the Council), by which they (the Seigneurs of the Council) are held content and satisfied and their (the Seigneurs of the Council) heirs and successors exempt from all claims in perpetuity by these presents, in witness whereof the present deed has been granted to the Sieur Samuel Jayen his son (however, one has already been drawn up for the Sieur Jean François, also his son), in Council of the said Morges under the ordinary seal of the said City and the signature of its Secretary the aforesaid day the 26th of June 1702.")
His will was probated in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury:

In the Name of God Amen, I Francis Joyfull of Sevenoaks in the County of Kent, Gentleman, being sick in body but of a sound mind and memory, do make this my last Will and Testament in manner following, that is to say, first I recommend my Soul to Almighty God, and my Body I commit to the Earth to be decently buryed upon the Coffin in the Grave with my late Loving Wife Martha at the discretion of my Executor hereafter named, and as touching such Worldly Estate as God hath bestowed upon me, I give and dispose thereof as followeth: Imprimis I give and bequeath unto my Nephew Solomon Joyen three hundred pounds of lawfull money of Great Britain to be paid to him within twelve months after my decease. Item, I give and bequeath to my two Nieces Frances Joyen and Frances Judith Joyen two hundred and fifty pounds of like lawfull money to be paid at the same time. Item, I give and bequeath to my Nephew Gillmore Hitchenham alias Joyfull fifty two pounds ten shillings to be paid imediately after my decease of like lawfull money. Item, I give and bequeath to my present servant Thomas Chapman ten pounds of like lawfull money. Item, I give and bequeath to the poor of the Parish of Sevenoaks one pound four shillings of like lawfull money to be distributed imediately after my decease. Item, all the rest and remainder of my reall and personal estate whatsoever after all of my debts, legacys, and funeral expences are first paid and satisfied, I give and bequeath to my Friend Benjamin Dry, Esquire, whom I make sole executor of this my last Will and Testament, hereby revoking , making null and void all former and other Will and Wills by me at any time heretofore made, and do declare this and no other to be my last Will and Testament, in witness whereof I, the said Francis Joyfull the Testator, have to this my last Will and Testament sett my hand and seal this Fifteenth day of April in the Fourteenth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Second by the Grace of God of Great Britain, France, and Ireland King, Defender of the Faith etc., and in the year of our Lord 1740. This Will was proved at London the twenty eighth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty, before the Worshipfull Henry Edmunds, Doctor of Laws, Surrogate of the Right Worshipfull John Bettesworth, Doctor of Laws, Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted, by the Oath of Benjamin Dry, Esquire, the Sole Executor in the said Will named, to whom Administration was granted of all and singular the goods, chattells, and creditts of the said deceased, being sworn duly to administer the same.
