In the United States, the family name soon became Bursott.
There may be a problem with his birth date. His parents baptised a son Ami Olivier in 1780, and another son Aimé Olivier in 1785. The names Ami and Aimé are equivalent, or nearly so. It is possible that his birth date was not actually know from American documents, and that his descendants, after studying the church records from Les Brenets, decided that the 1780 baptism was his. However, he gives his age as 70 in the 1850 census.
The will of Amy O. Bersot, dated 11 apr 1857, is on file in Carroll Co., Kentucky, Will Book 2, p. 445. An abstract on RootsWeb reports the heirs were daughters: Zella J., and Serephine; sons: Julius, Edward, Lewis, & Alfred F.; and the heirs of the deceased daughter Caroline. Administrator: his son, Julius. From this list, we surmise that Adèle died before 1857 without heirs, and that the son Alfred was born after 1815. Alfred is found in the 1850 census of Carroll Co., Kentucky, age 29, born in Kentucky, and all later censuses agree. He died in Richland Co., Illinois, where his tombstone gives an exact age at death, yielding a birth date in 1820, thus establishing that the family arrived in the United States between 1815 and 1820.
On the 1850 census of Carroll Co., Kentucky, Amy Bursott, age 70, a silversmith, is living with his wife Emily, age 72, both born in Switzerland. Their son Julius is in Carroll Co., and the families of Lewis Bursott (age 41, born in Switzerland) and Edward F. Bursott (age 34, born in Switzerland) are in Middle Township, Hendricks Co., Indiana. In 1830, Ami Bursott was in Gallatin Co., Kentucky, with a total of 3 males and 3 females in the household. Julius Bursott was in a separate household with a wife and a daughter only. Caroline had married Charles Aimé Thiebaud, but died in 1848. The will of Ami might reveal where the others were living at that time.

The name Erlestine, written clearly, is found several times in the church records of Les Brenets. In American records, this name is usually transformed into Ernestine. Her tombstone in the Vevay Cemetery gives her exact age at death, yielding the same date of birth found in the church records at Les Brenets.
