We have probably conflated two men of the same name. The one who married Marguerite Comte is probably not the one born in 1607. The church records seem incomplete, and we have not been able to resolve this problem. The solution will be sought in the records of the notaries.

He appears in 1756 as a witness at a baptism, identified on that occasion as a resident of London! Exactly what he was doing there has not been discovered, but he must be the Samuel Rouge of London who is mentioned as the brother of Susanne Rouge, wife of Victor Fivaz and mother of the first wife of Isaac de Trey, in the testament of the latter. His death (as Samuel Rouge, Esq.) was reported in the Gentleman's Magazine, and his will was probated at the Prerogative Court of Canterbury (not yet examined). The papers of John Achard at the Nottingham University Library (Pw C 514-520) include seven letters from Samuel Rouge, 1745-1762.

This is the minister whose notations in the church register at St. Aubin are of such interest. He recorded comets, earthquakes, epidemics, visits of notables, political events (the entry of the Prince of Orange into London!), fast days, successions of ministers in neighboring towns, and especially his own relationships to others in his congregation. He calls Bernard Gélieu, son of Abraham, his "Cousin", implying most likely that Abraham Gélieu married someone of the Rougemont or Rognon families. (He spells his own surname Rougemond, though everyone else uses Rougemont.)
The "cousins" identified in the course of the records of baptisms, marriages, and deaths, beginning 1659, are the following:
A number of "nephews" are identified:
His first wife was Susanne Jaquet, daughter of the late Pierre Perrin Jaquet of Travers. She died 12 feb 1672. He must have remarried, for there are later references to "my wife" appearing as sponsor at numerous baptisms.
So far the only one of these that can be identified even tentatively is Henry François Rognon, Châtelain de Gorgier. If he is indeed the son of Guérard Rognon, then the most likely explanation for François Anthoine Rognon's relationship to Bernard Gélieu is that Abraham Gélieu married another of the daughters of Beat Jacob Rognon, as did the father of François Anthoine Rognon.
[2916] His notes in the parish register at St. Aubin refer to his ordination in 1637 and subsequent service at St. Blaise before coming to St. Aubin in 1659. He would have been at least 20 at the time of his ordination. Date from SGB VI.

In addition to children positively identified, the Henri Rougemont who married at Grandson 28 jan 1628, Magdelaine Rougemont who married Beat Jacob Rognon, and perhaps the wife of Abraham Gélieu would also belong to this family. Dates and other information from Schweizerisches Geschlechterbuch VI, p. 612. Not yet checked for additional information in church records. If his son's assertions about relationships to Bernard son of Abraham Gélieu and to others in the Rougemont and Rognon family are correct, then Jean was probably the brother of the wives of several prominent men of St. Aubin, and/or his wife was a Rognon.

Identification of the wife of Beat Jacob Rognon as the daughter of Guillaume Rougemont seemed probable from the close relationships between members of both families in the church records of St. Aubin. It is confirmed by information in Pierre-Arnold Borel's Livre de Raison: Les Rougemont de St. Aubin.

Originator of the Rougemont family, in St. Aubin. The descendance here differs completely from that cited in the Schweizerisches Geschlechterbuch, whose sources are not given. The more recent information is from Pierre Arnold Borel. This Petri Rogimont was apparently born at Provence, but was established at St. Aubin by 1417, although references to his property are found at Provence as late as 1434.
