[15444] SPL has two copies of the Sayre Genealogy: The book in the genealogy department is only a partial copy (from Michigan Microfilms) and the original, complete book has to be requested from genealogy desk.
[15074] There is considerable information about the Sayre family on the internet. While much of it sounds authentic (will, etc.) additional proof will be necessary to confirm what is shown in RootsWeb's World Connect project.
Sources: Colonial Families of the USA by George N. Mackenzie, 1907 ; Virkus' Compendium of American Genealogy (known to have many errors), World Family Tree pedigrees, as well as The Sayre Family - Lineage of Thomas Sayre, a founder of Southampton, by Theodore Banta, 1901.
Internet sources give Mary Clark as Daniel's 1st wife; marr. 2) Sarah, whose last name is not known. Seven children are named: Daniel, Jr., Isaac, Hannah, Mary, Anne (who married Moore), Ethan and Silas.
Another source: Colonial & Revolutionary Families, Vol. II, Richards Family, pg 1083. World Family Tree, Vol. 3, Pedigree #5318; also Vol. 1, Pedigree #4718 (8 pp of info) and this tree starts with William Sayre.
This article does not give exact date of death; shows death between 7 Oct. and 26 Nov. 1564. Surname Andrews based on the mention in will of "my brother John Andrew."
[14208] Actually, my copy of this article gives the surname as Androw. Just a typo?
Married Hannah _____, who died before Sep. 1683 (probably earlier). Married second, Rebecca (Porter) Clark, daughter of John and Ann (White) Porter of Windsor, and widow of John Clark of Saybrook.
Gerard appears to have been married at least twice, first to "Hannah" about 1635 and then "Hannah Hills", who may have been one and the same......The name of Hannah Hills appears only once in the IGI records when Samuel, the eighth child was born. (There are genealogies in print that name Hannah Hills as the wife, but, to my knowledge, no real proof has been found).
The Ruth Standley who married Humphrey Uredge at Tenterden on 16 September 1605 was probably Robert's widow.
[15424] No probate records before 1640 has been found in Kent for Humphrey or Ruth.
Stinson, Michael & Ann, same grave stone: Ann Stinfon (sic) who died Feb. 1, 1778, age 55 years.
Estimated from tombstone inscription.
Tombstone inscription reads: Elenor Stinson, wfie of John Stinson, d. 10 May 1833, age 73 years.
Date of marriage estimated.
He married 2) at Glemsford, 21 Oct. 1578, Julian Scott, daughter of Richard Scott of Fynstead in the parish of Glemsford. Julian Scott Strutt married 2) at Glemsford, 10 June 1591, widower Ambrose Biggs.
She left a will on 22 Sep. 1526 at Glemsford, co. Suffolk, which was proved 13 Nov. 1526; mentions son Thomas and daughter Elizabeth Ellice.
[10689] The will of Thomas Talbott, written in 1832, does not name his wife, Susan. It is assumed she preceded him in death.
[15016] There has been considerable speculation about Susan's surname. Squiers/Squires and Leach have been top contenders and Rhodes has also been suggested. Much more research will be necessary to determine her true surname.
Most of my information on the Talbott family was obtained from cousins Jean Cloud of Redwood City, CA and Barbara Van Vuren of Napa, CA. All of us descend from Jesse Hildreth who married Mary Ann Talbott. Our Hildreth lineage can be found in The Hildreth Family Association, Fifth Publication, 1984.
There were many Talbott families in early Maryland. Thus far, it has been impossible to find the link that would tie our branch of the family to an immigrant ancestor. The given name of Aquilla shows up in more than one of the Talbott families and the female names of Susan and Mary Ann were also quite common in Talbott lines.
May 2008: On Ancestry.com under early Maryland marriages is a Thomas Talbott to Susanna Rhodes on 15 April 1780. This is the only Thomas and Susan Talbott I have ever found.
Anyone wanting to pursue this Talbott family would do well to start with the inventory of sources previously searched by Barbara Van Vuren, included here as an aide to future research.
Hannah Thompson was alive in 1796 when she granted to her grandchildren, Francis Brock (husband of Martha Brock) and Andrew Ray, for love and affection, and consistent with the last will and testament of her deceased husband, Thomas Thompson, three negro children...
He was probably still living at the time of his daughter Sible's marriage in 1587, or else she would not have been styled the daughter of Thomas Vessey in the church register. The date of his death and the name of his wife are not known at present.
[14975] Mary Jane or "Jennie" had a daughter, Etta, by her first husband. Etta was born circa 1862 in Pennsylvania. She was enumerated with the Rice family in Martin Co., MN in the 1870 federal census, as Etta Stewart. Also in the Minnesota state census for 1875. At the time of her marriage (20 May 1879) she was using the surname Rice, as reported in the local newspaper.
July 2006: On internet, (rootswebworldconnect) info from one Richard Belding Gilbert gives considerable info about the Belding family; where they resided after their marriage, etc. Etta's name is given as Etta Virginia Rice.
July 2006: Checked 1920 census on line and found Etta Belding in Tulsa, OK with son-in-law Dennis Swisher and wife, Naomi, who was Etta's daughter. Other daughter, Mae, was part of this household. Again, Stella Gould's notes were correct.
Estimated marriage date.
2d wife of Daniel Sayre was Hannah (White) Topping, widow of Thomas Topping.
Maiden name of Alice thought to be Kellogg
Hannah was the widow of John Brewer of Cambridge, MA.
Married 2) Margaret, widow of John Elson, who had been killed by the Indians in the Wethersfield massacre, 1637. No issue by the second marriage.
