In 1540 (ACV Aa 12/5, no. 1265), he was a "prédicant" or minister at Granges-près-Payerne (this document calls him Daniel du Mont). His wife at that time was Benoite du Ruz. By 1576 (ACV Fm 4bis, fol. 1), he had died and his daughter Jeanne had married Michel de Trey of Payerne (in this document he is the late Daniel de Mont, formerly minister at Payerne). He does not appear on the lists of ministers in the valley of the Broye compiled by Henri Vuilleumier, nor have we found any other published reference to his existence. He is in the list for the "taille" of 1550 (ACV Bp 14/1, "Livre du Taux & Giette de la Ville de Moudon l’an 1550"), however, in the entry for the village of Granges: "Maistre Daniel du Mont du temps de ladicte composition ministre dudict lieu maintenant ministre d’Avenche n’a riens poyé pource à cause de ce se dict bourgeoys de Payerne pretende en doibje estre exempt." In other words, he was still minister at Granges when the tax was imposed, but by the time the list was compiled he had become the minister at Avenches. He was, according to this source, a citizen of Payerne. The "taille" was a special and very peculiar tax imposed by Their Excellencies of Bern on their citizens who had been subjects of Savoye, in order to extinguish a debt claimed by Savoye as a result of Bern's invasion of the Pays de Vaud in 1536.
Additional citations are found — some under Demont, others under Dumont — in the "Fichier des pasteurs" at the ACV. One of these, citing the accounts of a place apparently abbreviated as Bge. de Lus., indicates that he began his ministry at Granges on the Sunday after Ste. Luce, 1537 (the festival of Saint Lucia is December 13, so the date is presumably 16 dec 1537). Additional references from the "Fichiers" point to the registers of the notary Aymé Chuard (ACV Dp 15, plus one stray register catalogued as Dp 109/2), where we find the contract dated 15 feb 1542 for his second marriage, to Anne daughter of Claude Michiez the younger of Corcelles, widow of the late notary Jean Banquetaz of Payerne (the citation says register 16/2 fol. 19, but from the description, it must be ACV Dp 15/2 instead). He is called "Frere Danyel", prédicant de Granges, in a transaction recorded by Pierre Chuard, father of Aymé (Dp 16/3, fol. 322v, dated 19 apr 1543). Additional mentions in the registers of Aymé Chuard place "maitre Daniel" at Granges as late as 1556. The "Fichier des pasteurs" also reveals that he had a daughter Claudine whose marriage to Nicod Moratel of Payerne was recorded at Granges (celebrated at Sédeilles) in 1569. As noted above, Daniel had just left Granges for Avenches around the end of 1550, but he must have returned, or else he had a dual appointment (perhaps deacon at Avenches plus pasteur at Granges), for Aymé Chuard still places him at Granges as late as 1556. The Manual de Conseil of Payerne for the years 1554-1572 mentions him several times. He began his tenure as pasteur 22 mar 1559 (fol. 119) and was still there 14 mar 1563) fol. 171v). Daniel was still the minister at Payerne as late as 11 feb 1567, when he is mentioned in this capacity in ACV Bb 30/5, p. 312. He had died by 1569, as noted in the marriage of his daughter Claudine. It is not yet certain which of Daniel's wives was the mother of Claudine, but since the marriage contract of Jeanne lists Pierre du Ru as her next of kin on her mother's side (prochain parent maternel), it follows that Jeanne must have been the daughter of Daniel de Mont's first wife (marriage contract recorded 20 may 1568, Benoit Nible, notary, ACV Dp 73/2, fol. 308).
There are several additional mentions of him in the registers of the notary Aimé Chuard (ACV Dp 15 and Dp 109/2). On one occasion (Dp 15/3, fol. 36, dated 23 may 1545, he is stated to be a native of the "city of Sens" (in the modern Département d'Yonne, France). This information represents a huge increase in our knowledge of the protestants of Sens, site of many troubles during the Wars of Religion, but for which almost no documentation remains.

There are several mentions of François Demont and his brothers Rod and Pierre in the terrier ACV Fn 343, in connection with property held in 1591 by Annaz Gervais and by Jean Duthey, whose mother was Claudaz daughter of François Demont. These brothers also had unnamed nephews, but from the chronology it appears that the François with brothers Rod and Pierre must be the father of Claudaz.

He is probably the "Spectable" Guillaume DeMont mentioned as a neighboring property owner at the hamlet of Le Plan in Moudon, 16 sep 1660 (Pierre Gavin, notary, ACV DL 45). The title is explained by the marriage contract dated 01 jul 1669 (Benoit Giraudet, notary at Moudon, ACV DL 50/4), for Abraham son of Spectable Guillaume DeMont, régent d'école et bourgeois de Moudon. Guillaume's career might have taken him to another town, which could explain the absence of his son Abraham's baptism at Moudon. He is listed once in the church records of Moudon, 29 feb 1648, as "chantre" or cantor, as well as "second régent".
The contract for Guillaume's marriage was located in the register of Jaques Jaquier, notary at Moudon (ACV DL 52/1 fol. 172, dated 28 may 1620; the contract gives the bride's surname as Poyterlin, a name familiar in Moudon, even though other records confirm that the name should have been Poitevin, from Lausanne). Now that we know that Guillaume's wife's step-father, Pierre Jénin, was a professor at the Académie de Lausanne, we can begin to glimpse the outlines of his career. Guillaume was probably educated at the Académie and became acquainted with his wife's step-father there. His wife had other relatives in Lausanne, and we might guess that some family events would be recorded there in the church records. Further, he was, like his wife's step-father, a school teacher, and likely held such a position during the 1620's, before he was able to secure a post in his home town of Moudon. Might Jénin have recommended him for a position at Cossonay, the same post that Jénin held in 1609? We are probably missing the names of at least three or four of his children born between 1620 and 1630.
There is, however, a settlement among his heirs dated 03 oct 1672, recorded by Pierre Gavin, notary at Moudon (ACV DL 45/1). The settlement names his widow Sara Poitevin, sons Daniel and Abraham, and daughters Marie (wife of David Bullod, perhaps of the family usually spelled Bulloz), Anne (wife of Moyse DuPerron), and Sara, still unmarried. A further settlement recorded by the same notary (ACV DL 45/4, dated 10 may 1673) also mentions Jean Poitevin, citizen of Lausanne and uncle of the children of Guillaume, and Jaques Bussigny of Moudon, their cousin.

He and his widow are mentioned in some of the terriers of Moudon, e.g. ACV Fn 347 (1592), in the indefinite past. The most definite citation located so far is in the reconnaissance of the heirs of Anthoine son of Maurice Dutoit, fol. 110, where we find property that had previously been recognized (probably in a terrier compiled by François Collomb) by Pierre Demond Escoffier acting for Françoyse widow of Jehan Demont his uncle, daughter of the late Pierre Decoster.
