Boarder in the Cressey household was Alice N. Brock, age 25, music teacher, b. CA; parents b. IL and NY.
Pg 136 of the mortuary records shows a death date of Oct. 17, 1897 for "Mrs. Riggs", with no first name listed. The person who made arrangements was J.S. Riggs, known to be the husband of Alice (Brock) Riggs. Place of burial not noted but could have been the Masonic cemetery in Livermore, where both of her parents were interred. Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery and the Masonic Cemetery are the same.
[10262] For the time being, I am leaving the date of death as found in the family bible. There is a disclaimer along with the Callaghan records stating that the dates shown may not always be accurate. Need to have a search made of the microfilmed Livermore newspaper obits.
We desire to sincerely thank the friends who extended to us their kindness and sympathy at the time of our recent bereavement, through the death of a beloved wife and sister, Mrs. Alice N. Riggs. Signed: J.S. Riggs, Thos. Brock

[10347] Information about Amanda Brock originally came from the hand-written notes of Jennie Penn of Batavia, OH. We interpreted her husband's name to be "Cherry Jordan", although there was a nagging suspicion that Amanda might have been married twice and that Cherry and Jordan were both surnames.
In the 1860 census for Chicago, Amanda was enumerated as "Euphema", which was thought to be an error on the part of the census taker. In the estate papers of Thomas Brock, dated 1870, her name was given as Amanda E. Sherry, then supposedly residing at Topeka, KS.
May 2005: Illinois Archives website online shows a marriage license for an Amanda E. Brock and Ira Sherry in Waukegan, Lake Co., IL. Also online, the LDS website (Familysearch.org) shows her name to be "Effie", with Ira's full name given as Ira Button Sherry. A copy of the marriage record is now in my possession.
Following the leads listed above, a search of the 1870 census revealed the fact that Ira Sherry, wife "Effie" and infant son, Edgar, were living in Kansas City, MO ....not in Topeka, KS, as stated in the Brock estate papers. Residing next-door was Elizabeth Brock, Amanda's mother.
Nov. 2007: Using Heritage Quest online, the name of Amanda's second husband has finally surfaced and, as indicated in Jennie Penn's notes, it was Jordan. In 1880 Effie, as well as her mother, were enumerated in the same household in St. Louis, MO.
The 1900 census shows that the Jordan's had been married for 25 years. Effie's birthdate is given as Feb. 1853, which is about five years off from earlier readings.
Living nextdoor to Elizabeth Brock were Ira B. Sherry, age 22, b. IL, occupation: grocer; his wife, "Effie", age 21, b. IL; their son, Edgar, 3/12, b. MO. Also in this household was a servant, Eliza Arnold, age 15 and another person, Whitlaw (?) Jeffers, age 25, b. NY.
Living in the household of Wolf Bockbrach were Elizabeth Brock, widow, age 71, keeping house. Boarding in the home were Elizabeth's daughter, Effie Jordan, her son-in-law, E. P. Jordan and Effie's son by her first marriage, Edgar Sherry, age 10.
[10350] Edgar, known to have been the son of Ira Sherry, was not identified with that last name.

[10339] Catherine was very young when her mother died and she spent considerable time in Batavia, Ohio, with her half-sister, Eliza Minor, and her husband, Julius Penn. In both the 1850 and 1860 census Catherine was enumerated in Batavia with the Penns. Catharine, age 10 in 1850; age 20 in 1860. By 1870 she was married to Daniel G. Dustin and had four children, with age given as 27. In 1880 census, Kate was listed as age 36, so there was a date range of 1840-44. After many attempts searching the 1900 census, the family was located, still in Batavia, with Kate's birthdate recorded as July 1843. So far, this couple has not been located in the 1910 census and nothing more is known about them.
Daniel G. Dustin, age 28, Merchant, b. OH; wife, Kate M., age 27, b. IL; children, all born OH: Lorain, age 6; Henry, age 4, Jesse and Thomas B., twins, age 1.
George D. Dustin, tinner, age 37, b. OH; wife, Kate, age 36, b. IL; Children: Loie, female, age 16, b. CA; Harry Dustin, age 14, b. OH; Thomas and Jesse Dustin, twin sons, age 11, b. OH; John Minor, age 54, b. OH (this would be Kate's half-brother).
