Eventually, we found the record at La Neuveville — the place name was evidently a poorly written attempt at the Neuenstadt, the German name of La Neuveville.

Identified as a brother of Antoine son of Antoine Dubach at a baptism in Reutigen, 1813. He also appears at a baptism in Péry 11 nov 1798, for Théophile son of Théophile Evalet and Sara "Toubach". On that occasion, Cléophas and Aron "Toubach" appear as uncles of the child, and Rachel Evalet née "Toubach" appears as the child's aunt. The baptism of Cléophas turns out to be the one that appears to read Johann Georg when it was recorded at Reutigen. The original record at Orvin clearly says Jean Cléophas. All later records call him Cléophas.
Concerning his marriage, the record at Reutigen says his wife was Charlotte "Bloch" of La Neuveville. There appears to be no Bloch family at La Neuveville, and it seems far more likely that this wife, Charlotte "Bloch", is actually the same person as the one named in the baptisms of his children, Charlotte Pelot, a name that could be found at La Neuveville.

He was baptised as Johannes, and this name also appears in his marriage record and for the baptism of his son. But the records of the Red River Colony seem to call him Johannes Aaron.
Birth date from his his wife's account of their lives, even though 1794 was not a leap year, says February 29. The same impossible date, and perhaps from the same source, is found in a biographical sketch of his son Frederick. Records of the Red River Colony place the origin of this family at Niederstocken, in the parish of Reutigen, Canton Bern, Switzerland, but the church records there reveal that members of this family lived in several different places, such as Pery, St. Imier, Villeret, etc. The family came to America in 1821 as part of the Red River Colony. There were five in the family: "Johann Aaron", his wife and son, and his parents. Conditions were extremely severe, and the Swiss colonists felt they had been cheated. The Dubach family left for the United States in 1823. They reached Vevay in November, 1824. His wife's account tells us that his mother also reached Vevay. One document from the Red River colony appears to list an Aaron Dubach as a casualty in 1823, likely meaning that he died there. His wife's account describes the death of the elder Dubach at Pembina in 1822, from eating a poisonous plant. There is also confusion regarding the name of his mother, apparently called Catherine in the Red River Colony records, but in fact Maria Elisabeth Brechbühl of Trub (though the spelling of her surname is inconsistent and usually unclear).

The record of her baptism copied into the church books at Reutigen calls her simply Maria. The original record at Orvin has the complete name.
She appears at Péry in 1794, when she marries Etienne Evalet. Her husband might be a brother of the Théophile Evalet who married Sara Dubach, apparently the sister of Elizabeth. But in this case, statements about these two couples being aunts and uncles of each others' children become ambiguous. In the church records at Péry, Etienne Evalet appears to be a son of "J." Evalet (clearly written, not an "I"), but there is a baptism for Etienne son of Abraham Isaac Evalet (born 10 feb 1767, baptised 22 feb 1767 at Péry). We did not find the baptism of Théophile at Péry. If Etienne and Théophile are not brothers, then Elizabeth and Sara must be sisters. If Etienne and Théophile are brothers, it is possible that Elizabeth and Sara are not sisters. The death of Théophile was recorded at Péry in 1843, giving the name of his father as Abraham Isaac.
