Remarried later to Mr. Hunt, under which name she wrote an account of her 1854 wagon trek to California, "By Ox Team to California." This account was published in 1916 in the Overland Monthly, and a version drawn from that source has been published on the internet. It includes the information that Reuben Smith's parents were Oliver Smith, a physician and surgeon, and Sarah Herrick, who resided in Pennsylvania and had come from England about 1770. This information has not been verified.
