Record Vol. 120 (Apr. 1989): pp 73-76 — Pg 74 : Jonas Bower, who married Thomas Hildreth's widow, left a will dated 13 November 1670, proved 6 June 1671 (New York County Wills 1:159; WNYHS 1:22) mentioning sons Joseph, James, Jonathan, Jonah and Isaac. The will of Jonah Bower, dated 9 May 1708, proved 17 November 1709 (New York County Wills 7:560; WNYHS 2:33) mentions brother Isaac Bower, but there is evidence Jonah Bower and Joseph Hildreth were half-brothers, sons of Hannah ( -- ) (Hildreth) Bower.....
Her middle initial appears in the deed when she and Reuben P. Smith sell his homestead land. The marriage certificate notes that an affidavit establishing legal age was filed with the Alameda County Clerk, but this affidavit has not been located. She was most likely a widow with children, because Reuben's homestead application indicates he had been living on the land with a "wife and children" when he completed his residency requirement in 1873. No further record.
