A great number of children are attributed to one or more men called Abraham Flotron in the church records of St. Imier around 1800. Are they all the children of one Abraham? The question is clarified in some of the baptisms in the 1780's. One Abraham was the son of Gabriel, and married Marie Magdelaine Flotron. The other Abraham is apparently his son, born in 1767, with wife Reyne Courvoisier. The children listed here are those who are named as siblings of Sigismond Flotron, who has the genealogical advantage of being the only one so named, plus the children of Abraham and Marie Magdelaine whose baptisms have been located so far.

There are two records of his baptism. The main sequence of baptisms calls him Abraham Louis, while the register that may be the draft copy says simply Abraham. The opposite problem, apparently a Louis who was first called Abraham, is presented in the baptism of an earlier son of the same parents, raising the possibility that we have attached the wife Reyne Courvoisier to the wrong Abraham.

The birth date is recorded at St. Imier on the occasion of his first communion in 1803 (29 Frimaire XII = 21 dec 1803). The baptisms show that he had two wives, Lydie Guenin and then Olympe Sophie Meyrat (unless there were two men so named!). Assuming there was only one François Louis, the following siblings appear as sponsors for the baptisms of his children: Alphonse, Marianne, Jacob, Henri François, Frédéric Auguste, Emélie.
There are no more baptisms of his children at St. Imier after 1815. Was he the François Louis Flotron who is noted at Vevay, Indiana in 1819? He is the only one in the right age group, if the 1820 census can be believed (both he and his wife, Switzerland Co., IN page 165v, were age 26-45, and they had 3 sons under the age of 10 and a daughter age 10-16). There was another François Louis, son of Jacob son of David Floteron, baptised in 1774 at St. Imier, and a François Louis Henri, son of Jacob Floteron, baptised in 1767. It would be helpful to locate the name of the wife of the François Louis Flotron in Vevay. The strongest evidence located so far is the marriage of Justine Emily Flotron and Louis Brevet in Floyd Co., Indiana in 1827. Emily's age at death is consistent with the birth date of the daughter of François Louis Flotron in St. Imier. While Emily's tombstone inscription has evidently not been read correctly, the transcript gives her place of birth as "a native of SENTMEN Canton BERME, SWITZERLAND", plausibly an attempt at St. Imier. The census records of Floyd County need to be studied to see if we can spot any other trace of this family.
However, the discovery of Justine Emily also appears to invalidate the 1820 census listing for this family. The only daughter in that listing was over the age of 10, but Justine Emily was in fact only 9 years old on the official census day, August 7, 1820.
If we have correctly interpreted the evidence, François Louis was a nephew of the Sigismond Flotron who was part of the Red River Colony. However, François Louis arrived in the New World at least a couple years before his uncle.
F. L. Flotron, with his wife and four children, appear on the passenger list for the ship John, arriving from Amsterdam at the port of Philadelphia on 25 jul 1817. Also on this list are several other names recognizable as Vevay settlers: F. A. Flotron, single; P. J. Schenk, with his wife and one child; Phillippe Shenck, with his wife and two children; Francis Thibaut, with his wife and eight children; Daniel Buren, with his wife and three children. Thus, at least 29 passengers on this ship were bound for Vevay, and there are several other names that might be linked to Vevay as well, with further research.
Who were the four children who sailed for America with this couple? The only one we can identify is Justine Emily, who would have been 16 when she was married on 18 oct 1827.
