Surname listed as Vidondé when mentioned as sponsor of baptism in 1654 at Yens.
He acknowledged receipt of the marriage settlement on 23 jan 1569, assisted by Pierre Mayor of Ballens ("son indivis") (Claude Mayor, notary, ACV DB 26/1 fol. 84v). In the absence of any other explanation, the presence of Pierre Mayor might indicate that Gabriel had not reached the age of majority, or that Pierre was Gabriel's next of kin. The Pierre in question might have been the son of Jean, and thus, if we have correctly deduced the solution to this puzzle, a first cousin of Gabriel.
Also of interest is the relationship of Gabriel to his wife. If the first Claude Mayor dit Mathey of Mollens was, as we now suspect, a son of Jaques son of Pierre son of Antoine Mayor alias de Vernay, then Gabriel and his wife would be second cousins once removed.

His name is given as Vioux or similar in the terriers of the 16th Century, but in the later records it is usually Vieulx or Vieux. His two sons Gabriel and Jaques shared property with the Mayor family. The terrier ACV Fh 153, fol. 318, contains a "reconnaissance" dated 25 feb 1566, for "Pierre filz de feux Jehan Mayor de Ballens agissant en ceste partie tant a son nom proper que aux noms de Humbert filz de feuz Octhenin (=Ottonin) Mayor et de Gabriel et Jaques filz de feuz Loys Vyoux ses compartissantz", purchased from Henry Veyry of Aubonne for 43 florins (Eg. Guillaume Billiard, notayre de Montherod) 07 jan 1531 (lods signed Eg. Pierre Cuynsin). We recognize some of these parties; Jean, father of Pierre, was the brother of Ottonin Mayor, father of Humbert. Louis must have married a sister of these two, or some other relative of a similar degree. Later, the Mayor family assisted Gabriel Vieux in negotiating the marriage settlement with his wife Pernette, daughter of Claude Mayor dit Mathey of Mollens.

He is the subject of an entry in the terrier ACV Fh 4, believed to date from about 1430, for the seigneurie of Aubonne. On fol. 26, we find: "Item, tenent ut supra que Johannodus Vignyroux de Yens habitator de Trivillins nomine suo et Jaquete eius uxoris et Petrus Cornex eciam nomine suo et Johannete eius uxoris necnon Anthonii fratris dicte Johannete et Jaquetus Fabri carpentator tanquam ususfructuarius in bonis quondam Jaquete uxoris suo filie quondam Anthonii Bergeron"... These parties owe an annual cense of 3 deniers for "quandam domum situm in villa Albone in burgo exteriori juxta carreriam publicam a vento, borea, et juria." Similar or identical properties are mentioned in Fh 5, dated 28 jan 1443, possibly the date that should be applied to the similar entry in Fh 4.

Her marriage settlement is acknowledged by her husband Pierre Suffry, resident at Ballens, 01 mar 1569, referring to a contract recorded by Discret Claude Convers, notary of Ballens (ACV DB 26/1 fol. 88). The marriage record, difficult to read, is on p. 66 of the first register of marriages for the parish of Bière.
